FREE RAMBLING THOUGHTS
I had a good Sunday. The weather was great, my deck was clean and waiting for me. I took a decent walk this morning, then made a good breakfast and ate on the deck while reading the paper. I look forward to reading the Sunday paper, especially the column on Flagstaff history. They take actual news stories from years ago. The writing style is my favorite part. Here are two of my favorites from 100 years ago:
J. Diamond, County Superintendent of Roads, says the 1,300 miles of county road in Coconino County have been put in the best shape possible and should stand the test of ordinary floods.
Last week out in Spring Valley, Jim Smith, well-known cowboy, had a little experience that afforded him considerable excitement for a short time. While riding the range out near William Donaldson's place, he came across four young lobos and having no weapon with him, he at once got his trusty lariat into action and succeeded in capturing one of the vicious brutes. The animal made a hard fight for her freedom but was finally overcome and killed.
In today’s newspaper terms like “best shape possible’ would never be in the paper. It is sad that a wolf had to die, but the description of the event certainly shows its age.
Our screaming neighbor was up to her yelling again last night. She has been unheard since the police incident, which has been nice. Last night I believe she went a little too far, and even I am thinking of reporting her. I’m not sure how it all started, but a bunch of kids were playing. One set parents had just called their little boy inside. The screamer showed up, and started yelling at the parents that they had better not pick on her kids anymore. The she started a racial tirade, something about being a single Black mother doing the best she could with her kids. Then she said she was sick and tired of all the white people in the complex picking on her kids, calling the cops, and causing her problems. The shocked white couple said they had never called the cops, nor were they talking to her kids. She continued to repeat several times that all the whites in the complex were racists. She is real need of parenting classes. I’m not sure who notify at this point, but I’m thinking I might start with the HOA. This complex has a cross section of working people. Some are Native, some are Hispanic, some are White, some are Black and until this woman moved in, we all seemed to get along fine. This woman’s broad strokes are not good for the neighborhood.
It only got to 79° today. It was cloudy most of the day. There was no rain, which was a blessing for the hundreds that are cleaning up from the flash floods. The NWS says that we will have some thunderstorms all this week. That will be nice, unless one lives in the flash flood area.

SOMEWHAT USELESS INFORMATION
The first ever mention of “Microsoft” was in a letter from Bill Gates to co-founder Paul Allen in 1975. Gates initially wrote the company name as Micro-soft.

UNUSUAL NEWS ITEM
SUN VALLEY, ID — A police dog in the central Idaho resort town of Sun Valley is back on duty after serving a "suspension" for an unprovoked attack on a small schnauzer. Sun Valley Police Chief Cameron Daggett says the 5-year-old German shepherd named Dax took a few weeks off the job after the incident. The dog will receive more training to prevent a reoccurrence of what Daggett says was an unfortunate situation.
Dax is a four-year veteran of the force. He is trained to find illegal drugs, missing people, and evidence at crime scenes. On June 26, authorities say Dax attacked a schnauzer named Max. Max's owner says the city is paying the $600 veterinarian bill.

"Neither," she said. "It's a fish."
