Rambling Thoughts
Mary missed our lunch today, but Cheryl and I had a great Mexican lunch at our favorite Mexican place here in Flagstaff. It’s the 1st so the place was packed by 11:45. Cheryl is still trying to find a place to fix a wall mirror she has. She finally found one place and no one was there, then she went to another place today and it wasn’t there so she called and they said they were moving and not open for business. We found another place on my phone, and that place didn’t exist either, it was a vacant lot…that has been that way for decades.
Dr. says my thyroid is slowly going back to normal with still no idea why it decided to not be normal. Anyway, big surprise, another blood test in 3 months to be sure it is still going back to normal.One source says that last night’s 10p-12a drizzle was enough to set a new wet July record, but another source says that it only tied the record. Both claim to be using the NWS data so guess those number crunchers will work it out and let us know sometime. I clouded up this afternoon and we got a little rainy drizzle, but not much more than enough to wet the sidewalk. We’ll see if August is also a historically wet month.

RACINE, Wis. - A Wisconsin woman targeted by pranksters said she does not consider the gnome left by her door to be a fair trade for her missing lion statues. Liza Michna, 37, of Racine said she was at the hospital with her daughter, who was in a diabetic coma, about two weeks ago and returned home to find one of the lion statues that used to guard her front door was missing, The (Racine) Journal Times reported Monday. Michna said the second lion was taken two days later and replaced with a lawn gnome. Michna said the lions were a gift from her husband and five children on Mother's Day last year. "I love those things," she said. Michna said she won't press charges against the pranksters if the lions are returned unharmed. "They can have their gnome," she said.
Somewhat Useless Information
- In the vacuum of space, a bubble wouldn't be able to form due to the lack of exterior air pressure to counteract the pressure from within.
- Bubbles get their color due to a phenomenon known as iridescence. As waves of light pass through the bubble, it gets distorted by reflecting off different layers of soap film.
- A bubble's shell is composed of a layer of water molecules surrounded by two thin layers of soap. Technically, a bubble will freeze below 32 degrees Fahrenheit like all water. The only problem is that bubbles tend to burst after a few seconds, so in order to see a bubble freeze, the temperature needs to fall to a temperature that will freeze water molecules more quickly.
- Bubbles aren't usually thought of as weapons, but that is exactly how the snapping shrimp uses them. They create a cavitation bubble that immediately collapses creating a shock wave that, for a moment, is nearly as hot as the sun.
- The liquid shell of a bubble is always pulling inward due to the phenomenon known as surface tension. The water molecules try to minimize the surface area of the bubble. A sphere is the shape with the least amount of surface area while containing volume.
- Anything that fractures the tenuous layer of water molecules can cause a bubble to burst. For example, a gust of wind or an object (like your finger) will easily cause a bubble to burst.
