Another big fire in AZ…this one near the Fort Apache rez. AZ is
very dry and these forest fires are horrific. Flag is still on fire watch and
the forest service will not close the forest. Will never understand that.
There has been quite a few articles/stories about celebrities
wearing fake Indian headdresses in their fashion statements. I have to admit
that in my youth I too played cowboys and Indians. We wore cowboy hats and fake
Indian headdresses. When I found out I was going to work on Navajo, I expected,
through ignorance, to find Teepees, war paint, etc. I quickly learned that how
wrong I was and spent much time with my friends and family discouraging these
ignorant views. It is disheartening and frustrating that 40 years later—2 generations+—the
same stereotypes are still prevalent in our society. On the headdress thing,
the warriors wore them to show their honor and strength. Each feather had a
meaning of honor to that warrior’s life. For children or adults to wear chicken
feathers dyed bright colors is disrespectful. Many tribes and Indian groups are
standing up to media, celebrities and others to say ‘Idle No More’ on this
issue. I stand with them. And believe me it is not easy. I was at a gathering a
few years ago when a very nice lady was in attendance. It was a costume party.
She was wearing an Indian Maiden costume. I asked her about it and she claimed
that she had Indian heritage so it was OK. She wasn’t sure what tribe she was
related to. As a guest, I simply said that in my almost 40 years with Natives,
I did not know of a tribe that had women wearing such a headdress. She agreed
but kept the headdress on. Since she was claiming Native heritage, it is harder
for a white guy to say very much.

When Albert
Einstein was making the rounds of the speaker's circuit, he usually found
himself eagerly longing to get back to his laboratory work. One night as they
were driving to yet another rubber-chicken dinner, Einstein mentioned to his
chauffeur (a man who somewhat resembled Einstein in looks & manner) that he
was tired of speechmaking.
"I have an
idea, boss," his chauffeur said. "I've heard you give this speech so
many times. I'll bet I could give it for you." Einstein laughed loudly and
said, "Why not? Let's do it!" When they arrive at the dinner,
Einstein donned the chauffeur's cap and jacket and sat in the back of the room.
The chauffeur gave a beautiful rendition of Einstein's speech and even answered
a few questions expertly. Then a supremely pompous professor asked an extremely esoteric question about anti-matter formation, digressing here and there to let everyone in the audience know that he was nobody's fool. Without missing a beat, the chauffeur fixed the professor with a steely stare and said, "Sir, the answer to that question is so simple that I will let my chauffeur, who is sitting in the back, answer it for me."

Really Happened
A Louisiana man's decision to jump on an 11-foot alligator left
him with a gash on his hand that required 80 stitches."I've always been the kind of guy who learns the hard way," said Glen Bonin in the understatement of the year.
Bonin and three of his friends tried to move the gator off a road in Sulphur, La., because why drive around a gator when you can pretend to be The Crocodile Hunter and have one hell of a story to tell.
The encounter was captured on video if you want to look it up on the Internet for a good laugh.
"(We) took our shirts off, threw it on (the gator's) face, and we were going to come from behind it and jump on it. In the process of doing that, it spun around and grabbed my hand seconds before we jumped on it," Bonin said.
Bonin told the local news it felt like someone was pulling his arm out.
"I thought I was about to lose something," he said.
Bonin advised others against doing what he did.
"Call wildlife and fisheries, call the sheriff, call somebody, stay in your vehicles don't try to play with them or move them," he said. "Leave it to the professionals, that's what they say."

The belief that carrots help us improve our vision dates back to the WWII when British intelligence tried to hide from the Germans the superior new technology, so they came up with this plausible-sound myth.
However, according to snopes.com beta-carotene in carrots may help reduce the risk for cataract and macular degeneration but still we need to eat a large number of carrots to reach the satisfying level.

Many people really enjoy playing computer games, not only children and teenagers, but also adults. However, there is a country where none of them is allowed to play PC games after 10 pm.
People in Vietnam are banned from playing computer games between 10 pm and 8 am in order for the young people to be protected from wasting their brains.
Many citizens react to this ban, claiming that at least adults should be allowed to play PC games anytime.
