The term "opera" comes from the Latin opus, or "work."

Opera was the fruit of the Italian Renaissance. In the final decade of the sixteenth century, a group of artists, musicians, and poets who called themselves the Florentine Camerata met there to revive Greek drama and developed an opera in musica: a work in music. Galileo's father, Vincenzo Galilei was reportedly a member.

JFK donated his entire salary to charity.

Many aspects of JFK's life have been analyzed through popular books, movies, among other ways. But one thing that's not often mentioned is that while he was in office, he donated his entire congressional and presidential salaries to charity. He made more than enough money through his family's trusts, so he didn't particularly need the income.

Lyndon B. Johnson is the only president to be sworn in on an airplane.

When LBJ took the oath of office shortly after Kennedy's assassination, it was notable for several reasons. He's the only president to ever be sworn in on an airplane, and the only one to be sworn in by a woman, Judge Sarah T. Hughes. Also notable was the fact the Jackie Kennedy stood by his side for the swearing-in, with blood still on her coat.

Richard Nixon had many talents.

While he certainly isn't remembered as the best politician, he is known for his many other talents outside of the Oval Office. Nixon knew how to play five instruments, was an avid bowler, and a huge football fan.

Gerald Ford could have been a professional football player.

Ford could have taken a very different path as an NFL player instead of becoming a politician. When he graduated from the University of Michigan in 1935, he received offers from Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers but turned them both down to study law and coach football at Yale.

My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Not sure what was going on with my computer/internet yesterday. All better today.

Yesterday my dental cleaning/checkup went well. Not sure what is going on with the Dr. I had to sign a paper that if I canceled an appointment less than 24 hours before the appointment, there would be a $150 charge. He must have raised his rates also because last cleaning/checkup was $62 after insurance…this time the receptionist said it would be $220 after insurance. I always pay at the time but told her to bill me. If the cost is correct, I’m looking for a new dentist.

I really enjoy a nice grilled cheese sandwich, but do not enjoy standing at the stove to make it. I checked the internet machine and found a way to do it with my air fryer. It only takes 10 minutes, and I flipped it after 5 minutes. It was great!

I was shocked to hear about the increase in Asian American assaults, especially in CA and NY. In New York the 2020 rate increased 869%. Crazies are blaming them for Covid. That is so sad.

Today I finally got a haircut. I haven’t gotten one since early December. I feel a lot lighter and enjoy it.

New evidence suggests that Stonehenge was originally built in Wales and moved 169 miles to its current location…on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England. The placing of stones was a monumental feat. Moving it that far makes it much more enticing. New evidence shows that both sites were lined with the equinox. WOW!

I texted a great Focus Traveler from Texas to be sure she and her family were OK. She texted back that she has power and water on her ranch. Her adult son and her adult daughter live in Austin. They do not have power or water but are OK. She is a retired principal and we shared great education stories when we travel with Focus. Glad she and her family are OK.

I missed the Focus Annual Blowout via the internet yesterday. Ellie sent me the information so I will post it tomorrow.

During the re-broadcast of the episode the joke is replaced by a title card read off-screen and the joke nearly cost everyone at SNL their jobs.

2006 – The Rolling Stones performed in front of the largest open show for the public in Copacabana Beach in Brazil,1.3 Million people attended

 

2010 – Golfer Tiger Woods admitted to having several affairs, which were brought to light after an incident in Windermere, Florida, an Orlando suburb, around 2:30 a.m. on November 27, 2009. His car crashed, reportedly, but several eyewitness accounts said it looked like it was attacked by someone with a golf club. Ironically, his wife, Elin Nordegren, was reportedly informed about his infidelities shortly before the ‘crash.’
