My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
Another cold
nice but warming up nicely. I ran a few errands this morning. Roads were dry, except
for my road and parking lots.
The Broncos
lost; the Cards won. Cards are in the playoffs.
60 Minutes ran a story on the Richie Boys, a secret
American intelligence unit who fought in World War II. Many of them were
German-born Jews who fled their homeland, came to America, and then joined the
U.S. Army. The Ritchie Boys, as they were known, trained in espionage and
frontline interrogation. And incredibly, they were responsible for most of the
combat intelligence gathered on the Western Front. After watching, I had to
wonder why the military didn’t learn from these exploits and form such a group
for the War on Terror. One 98-year-old Richie Boy said they learned early in
the war that they got more useful information from being understanding than
from the torture. It makes sense. A similar group could have prevented
waterboarding and other torture methods we used.
