Thoughts
We found a great new
restaurant…good food, great service, reasonable prices, everything one could
ask for. We will be trying another new one next week. Mary spent the weekend in
Phx and missed our snowstorm. Cheryl is heading to CA in early Feb to be with
her granddaughter while her young grandson gets his permanent pacemaker put in.
Everybody is caught up on my Mexico adventure.
Claire, the flutist I
met in Mexico, is having her CD release party tonight in NYC. Richard and Laura
are there supporting her. I am sooooo jealous. And so honored to have met her.
Flagstaff is not a ‘men’s
scarf’ area, like NYC or Chicago. But we have occasional cold spells and must
say, the scarf really helps—especially in the wind. I picked one up in Ethiopia
that I really like and have been wearing it. Have a couple more I got as gifts…Guess
I’m a trend setter.

The National Game warden
put out a warning to all hikers in his area. Warning that they should wear
small bells on their boots so not to startle the bears. To distinguish the
grizzly bear the notice read-- small bear droppings are small with nut and
berries in it. Grizzly bear droppings are much larger with nuts and berries and
little tiny bells in it.

Somewhat Useless Information
- Elvis Presley's first RCA single, "Heartbreak Hotel", released in January 1956, was a number one hit.
- Elvis Presley married Priscilla Beaulieu in 1967 after 7 years of courtship. They had one child, Lisa Marie Presley, born in 1968. They separated in 1972.
- It is a rather well known fact that the Mayans practiced human sacrifice for religious and medical reasons, but what most people don't know is that many Mayans still practice blood sacrifice. But don't get too excited - chicken blood has now replaced human blood. Today the Maya keep many of the ritualistic traditions of their ancestors. Elements of prayer, offerings, blood sacrifice, burning of copal incense, dancing, feasting, and ritual drinking continue in traditional ceremonies.
- The Mayan peoples regularly used hallucinogenic drugs (taken from the natural world) in their religious rituals, but they also used them in day to day life as painkillers. Flora such as peyote, the morning glory, certain mushrooms, tobacco, and plants used to make alcoholic substances, were commonly used.
Yeah, It Really Happened
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -
Police in Florida said a man who led officers on a chase told them he fled so
he could smoke his crack before going to jail. Gainesville police said officers
attempted to pull over a blue pickup truck Saturday because it had a headlight
out, but the driver failed to stop and ran a red light while fleeing the
pursuing vehicle, The Gainesville (Fla.) Sun reported Wednesday. Cpl Angelina
Valuri, police spokeswoman, said an Alachua County Sheriff's Office deputy
joined the chase and the truck eventually stopped at a Kangaroo gas station on
U.S. 441 in Micanopy. The driver, Kenneth Stine, 53, told officers he stopped
fleeing because he was out of gas. He told the officers he had refused to pull
over because he had just purchased some crack and wanted to smoke it in his
vehicle before going to jail. Stine was arrested and charged with fleeing and
attempting to elude, possession of drug paraphernalia and violating his felony
drug probation from a 2010 case.
