Today’s Thoughts

And the heat wave continues. Ready for some moisture. About 1:30 this afternoon the breeze picked up, then the clouds came in, then the thunder started. By 2pm it had cooled off to 79° and our parched land was getting sprinkles. Hope the monsoon sticks around for a while.

I had a good checkup with my PCP this morning. My Bell’s Palsy may have been the rhino virus or it may have been the two dose Shingles vaccine about a month before I got the Bell’s. Dr. says we will never know which. I stopped at Dunkin’ and brought the Dr. Office staff a dozen donuts. They have been so good during this time, always fitting me in when I call. They were very appreciative.

Flagstaff residents have a not-to-good relationship with land developers. There are way too many multi-story apartments since the University is trying to get out of the dorm business. I saw this on Facebook: Developers is pronounced Devil Lopers.

RFK, Jr. certainly has name recognition. His recent Congressional testimony was off the rails.  He denied ever saying things that can be easily found on tape. He has conspiracy theories long debunked and now he claims he never said any of that. We don’t need a liar in the White House again.

The Feds are investigating Texas as it appears they are putting razor-wire a little under the water on the river that the illegals use to enter the US. Sad commentary on humanity.

Tony Bennett gave us some great music. RIP at 96.

Enjoy

Hoaxes…NEW

The largest Ponzi scheme in world history

In a case that shook world stock markets to their core, investment adviser and financier Bernie Madoff confessed to the largest Ponzi scheme in world history, and the largest financial fraud in US history. Madoff's criminal activities defrauded thousands of investors of billions of dollars. In 2009, the disgraced financier was sentenced to 150 years in prison, where he died in April 2021.

True Conspiracy Theories…

The Gulf of Tonkin Incident

The 1964 attack on the USS Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin was used as a pretext for US involvement in the Vietnam War. Declassified documents later revealed that the attack never happened.

Random Trivia…

President Zachary Taylor died from a cherry overdose! Zachary Taylor passed away after eating way too many cherries and drinking milk at a Fourth of July party in 1850. He died on July 9th from gastroenteritis. The acid in cherries, along with the milk, is believed to have caused this.

Historic Events

  • 1342 – The St. Mary Magdalene’s flood in central Europe killed thousands of people.
  • 1376 (?) The Pied Piper of Hamelin musically took the children from the town when they refused to pay a debt. It may have happened in 1284. It probably never happened.
  • 1587 – The second group of English settlers arrives on Roanoke Island off North Carolina to re-establish the deserted colony. #croatoan
