True Things

Authorities find 'underwater skeleton tea party'

Authorities in Arizona responding to a report of human remains in the Colorado River said they actually discovered a staged "underwater skeleton tea party." The La Paz County Sheriff's Department said deputies received a report Monday from a Colorado River snorkeler who spotted what appeared to be human remains near the Cienega Springs boat launch. A Buckskin Fire Department diver investigated with a video camera and discovered the reported remains were actually a pair of fake skeletons in lawn chairs having what the sheriff's department described as an "underwater skeleton tea party." "Although the call itself was resource intensive, both the Sheriff's Office and Buckskin Fire were happy to find that the remains weren't real and thanked the reporting party for making the call," the department said.

Presidential Trivia…Preparing for President’s Day

George Washington didn't have wooden teeth.

Contrary to popular myth, the first president did not in fact have wooden teeth. Instead, his dentures were made of human and cow teeth, ivory, and metal. However, the president was fond of very dark wines, which may have stained his dentures, giving them the appearance of being wooden.

 

John Adams died on a particularly notable day.

Adams died on July 4th, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Coincidentally, Thomas Jefferson, his former vice president who later became his bitter political rival, died on the same day. Adams' last words reportedly were," Thomas Jefferson survives," but Jefferson had passed away a few hours earlier.

 

Thomas Jefferson's presidency wasn't his proudest accomplishment.

Jefferson accomplished quite a lot in his lifetime. When it came time to plan his gravestone inscription, he requested that three things be put on it — and his presidency didn't even make the cut! Instead, he wanted to be remembered as:"Author of the Declaration of American Independence and the Statute of Virginia for religious freedom, and Father of the University of Virginia."

My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Every year about this time we are given ‘the greatest match-up’ or ‘the most anticipated’ game of the century, or some other inane hype. It’s a football game. I will watch it. And yes, I’m watching some of the pre-game hype too.

I will probably be watching much of next week’s Impeachment too. I’m not expecting much. Every Senator’s vote at the end will embolden or destroy their career. No matter what the outcome, voters will remember the vote of each Senator in their state.

At 2pm today our county site is opening up 1200 vaccine appointments. I’ll be online trying again.
