Rambling Thoughts
I thought my day was going to be relaxing, but the afternoon was not that at all. I had not received any emails from my old or new financial advisor regarding my accounts. Got a little nervous. Then my new advisor’s new assistant broker called me. I asked why I hadn’t gotten an email. He said he didn’t know. Then he asked for a list of my investments. Told him I wasn’t doing that over the phone. Then he starts off an a ‘story’ about how all my accounts not be in the email he is sending me because only the holdings held in one account, or connected to that account are available. After 40 minutes I was more confused than ever. It seems that the company allows its brokers to invest in holdings that are approved but are not held in my portfolio, but are held by the company that issued them. He promised to send me a list of the holdings that he has, but said it takes time for his office to find other investments, unless the client gives them the names. This makes no sense to me. My former broker received numerous awards from the country for her investment strategy and she even conducted workshops for other brokers on how to do what she did. The clients never knew that the company was not in possession of all that information. I asked the new guy how he could say that all my investments were safe, when he didn’t even know where they were. He couldn’t answer that question.Now that we don’t have that old Threat Level colored scale, today the State Dept…not Homeland Security…issues a world-wide travel warning and is closing 21 embassies and consulates in N. Africa and the Middle East. With all the NSA data gathering, we all know the government isn’t telling us everything. I’m not saying we should be told everything, but this warning is disturbing. Obama has told us that ‘Osama is dead and Al Qaeda is on the run’. That is starting to sound like Bush, on that carrier and the infamous banner. Both incidents make the American public feel good for a time, but are far from the truth. Many have said over the centuries that somehow the truth will come out.Our afternoon drizzle continued and then suddenly turned into a full blown thunderstorm!

Yeah, It Really Happened
"One good turn deserves another"? This does not always apply. Maybe a better philosophy would be, "Don't bring home stray dogs, especially if you are a paraplegic who likes to sleep in the nude."This particular paraplegic apparently had a soft spot in his heart for a small, white, fluffy stray he had taken in about three weeks earlier. The dog repaid the kindness by eating one of his testicles while he slept.He was awakened by a "burning pain" in his mid-section, according to the initial police report. The 39-year-old man told police he sleeps in the nude and noticed the dog was between his legs. He also noticed the dog had blood on its muzzle and front feet.When the man looked further, according to the report, he noticed that "the dog had eaten one of his testicles." Police took the dog to a local veterinarian where it was euthanized and tested for rabies.The man, in a move that proves the universe has a perverse sense of humor, was taken to St. Bernards Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.
Somewhat Useless Information
- Although the fad didn't take off until the 1970s, the first skateboards were mass-produced back in the 1950s, when the sport was promoted as "sidewalk surfing."
- The development of polyurethane wheels and the addition of kick plates to the back of skateboards are the two key factors that led to increased interest in skateboarding in the mid-1970s. The improvements allowed riders to travel faster and with more control than ever before.
- Before he found success on Saturday Night Live, David Spade worked at a skateboard shop. His talent on the device helped him land his first film role, that of a young skateboarding punk named Kyle in Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol.
- Among celebrities who have broken bones while riding skateboards are dancer Fred Astaire, comedian Tom Green, and guitarist Brian May.
- Despite improved safety measures, including helmets and pads for knees and elbows, as many as 80,000 emergency room visits annually in the United States are the result of skateboarding mishaps.
- It is estimated that over one third of the approximately 9 million skateboarders in the United States live in California.
