Once in a blue moon
A
“blue moon” is a real astronomical phenomenon, referring to the second full
moon in the same month. It’s a rare occurrence—usually just once every 2.7
years—which is how the phrase came to be. Usually, a blue moon just looks gray
or white like any other full moon, but on even rarer occasions, the moon
actually does seem to change color. During volcanic eruptions or forest fires,
the oils in smoke can make the moon appear blue, according to NASA.

True Things
Authorities in California said a man who wound up in the back of a garbage truck survived by building "a coffin around himself" from trash. Yolo County Sheriff's Lt. Martin Torres said the man, whose name was not released, was searching through a Sacramento-area garbage bin for his wallet when the bin was dumped into the garbage truck.
"The man said he was stuck in the truck for about
an hour, but estimates show it was more like three or three and a half
hours," Torres told local news. "The truck made several other
pick-ups before arriving at the landfill, where the driver saw the man crawl
out of his trash pile."
The man used objects around him in the back of the
truck to "build a coffin around himself" and keep from being crushed
by the compactor. "He was lucky the truck was only half full," Torres
said. "Had it been full, he would have certainly been crushed and
suffocated to death."
Torres said a bulldozer at the Yolo County Landfill
nearly ran over the man after the truck dumped its load, but the truck driver
spotted the man and alerted the bulldozer driver in time. "The driver was
pretty much a hero for that," Torres said. Authorities said the man
appeared to be uninjured, but complained of neck and back pain. He was taken to
a hospital for an examination.
"While our driver had no idea of anyone in his
load, we're very glad and proud of our driver for spotting the man while
dumping out his truck at the landfill," said Nick Sikich, chief operating
officer of Sacramento-based Atlas Disposal. "If he hadn't, the landfill
equipment could have come along and buried him. We hope the man is OK and had a
speedy recovery from any injuries."

Rambling Thoughts
A nice warm Sunday. Great day for another nice walk.
In 2003 my 89-year-old mother passed. It was 14 years and one day
after my father passed. My brother and I were both there, as was one of my
cousins. She had a very peaceful passing and is still missed today.
I couldn’t watch the Broncos game on TV, so had to check internet
machine for scores. Too bad I couldn’t see it. Just didn’t have enough to comeback.
Now the Cards are playing, and of course it is on TV. I’ll see how that turns
out. They are doing well in the half against Washington.
A few years ago, I was in Thailand just before the year anniversary
of their beloved King’s death. I was surprised that there were still hours long
lines, everyone dressed in black..head to toe…standing in a hot line to see the
casket. There was talk then that the new king was not as revered. Today I saw
massive young people demonstrating against the King. It is illegal to protest
against the King. Lots of arrests. So sad.
NAU, the local University just announced 273 positive student
cases. No changes yet and they also announced they have done 4800 saliva tests.
The Tour de France has its first Native American competitor.

The Sunday paper had an article about the Top Paid State Employees
for each state: AZ…$2.4million for ASU football coach; $2million for UofA football
coach; $400,000 for the top Dept. of Health medical officer. CO: $2.9million
for CU football coach; $2.4million for CSU football coach; $376,000 for Judicial
Branch Deputy Attorney. Guess that helps explain the horrific cost of college
in both states.
