Today’s Thoughts

A nice fall day.

Our town has many controlled burns every fall. Every day is a little smoky. Today is not so bad.

The big vote around here is building a new hospital. It would be built of the far west side, near our county fair grounds…just inside the city limits in area with no commercial infrastructure. Both sides are spending big bucks in TV, newspaper, and internet ads. The pro-side sent out a flyer, claiming the local school district supported the new hospital. Just as they started arriving in the mailboxes, the District put out a statement that the district has not taken any stand and demanded a cease and desist order including that another flyer be sent out stating that the district did NOT have a stance on the hospital. It is a mail-in ballot that closes Nov. 7. I expect some lawsuits after the election results are public.  Dirty politics in our little mountain town.

Enjoy

Words pronounced differently in the North and South States…

Fireflies©Provided by ALot.com

You've probably seen the cute little bugs that appear during the summer, the ones that light up and look like stars floating across the ground. In the south, they're known as fireflies. Northerners, on the other hand, call them lightning bugs.

Random Trivia…

Ferocious Females©dailymail

When armadillos mate, the female armadillo can postpone her pregnancy until she feels she is in a safe, nurturing environment for her little one. And all this can be done with no harm to the little unborn critter, who stays (presumably) blissfully unaware. It's an adaption known as “delayed implantation". No more babies by accident!

Historic Events

Basketball (also MLB player and TV Star) Chuck Connors became the first NBA player to shatter a backboard at Boston Garden in 1946.

The Nat King Cole Show premiered in 1956 on NBC.

In 2007, the Android mobile operating system was unveiled by Google.

Susan B. Anthony voted (illegally) for the first time and was fined $100 in 1872.
