My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
Nice
morning, storms arrive this afternoon.
I did some
shopping at Wally World this morning. They didn’t have everything I wanted…unfortunately,
this is becoming the average experience.
I am still
reviewing and reading the new car manuals. Learned this morning that my power
seats not only go forward and back and heat up when needed, they also do up and
down. Nice!
A buddy on
mine, about 15 years younger than me, is in the hospital. He used to be the
head of the archery hunting group I hunted with when I was in Tuba. He got
Covid about a year ago. Now he has long Covid. Last week he was flown from Tuba
to Flag for treatment. His blood pressure came back under control, but his kidneys
aren’t working right. He starts dialysis here in Flag while they await a ‘space’
for him in TC. Very scary.
What a tragedy…41
people, including 10 children, died in a fire at a Coptic Church in Giza. I
think I saw that church when I was in Egypt long ago.
Not a lot of
people realize how important the Colorado River is to our economy. It provides
irrigation water to many farms in all the states. Now that Lake Mead and Lake
Powell are falling to historic levels, water for irrigation is being cut off.
Not surprising, the Indian tribes near the Colorado were given an allocation of
water. They have never received the agreed upon amount of water as the ‘states’
always used more than they were allotted. Now the Native tribes are demanding
what the agreement says. Of course, everyone else is upset. They all need to come together to solve the
problem. Thanks to 60 Minutes, more now know the problem.

One Hit Wonders
As an
unknown singer from Amarillo, Texas, it was surprising that Terry Stafford hit
the Billboard Top 100 chart, wedged between two Beatles hits. The song remained
on the Billboard chart for almost four months. Stafford also sounded a lot like
another chart-topping artist, Elvis Presley, who many fans originally believed
sang “Suspicion.”

1996 – At the Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield Illinois, a 3-year-old boy fell into a Gorilla enclosure and lost consciousness. Binti Jua, a female Gorilla, guarded the young boy against the other gorillas, cradled him in her arms, and carried him 60 feet to an entrance where zookeepers could retrieve him.
2008 – The Trump International Hotel and
Tower in Chicago reached 1,389 feet (423 m), making, at the time, the world’s
highest residence above ground-level.
