Rambling Thoughts
Beautiful day, but windy most of the day. Did some running around.
Had my monthly computer check up done by the guys who fixed it last month. A
few error messages were found, but no intrusions on my computer. I must say,
Tech Alliance is a really good company, once you get used to the foreign
accents. They are fast and friendly. They took over my computer for about 20
minutes, called me when they were done, had me check to be sure everything was
working. Worth it for about $8 a month.
Our country has no Attorney General. Our President has named his
nominee. Now Harry Reid, a member of the Democratic Party, has said he would
prefer that hearings be delayed until the new Congress comes in. The Far Right
Media issued a story last week that the nominee had served on the Clinton
lawyer team regarding Whitewater. Turns out it was not the Black nominee, but a
white lawyer with the same name. It took them 2 days to mention that their
story was false. Our political system and our media needs a huge makeover.
OMG…a probe, the size of a washing machine, has landed on a comet
some 30 million miles away that is traveling at 40,000mph. Amazing. And it is
sending back data about the comet. WOW! Not a science geek, but I find this
fascinating.

Brad Culpepper played defensive tackle for nine NFL seasons and,
not surprisingly, applied for disability when he retired, since his medical
folder listed 14 MRIs, head and knee trauma and neurological and vision
problems -- which resulted in doctors declaring him "89 percent"
disabled and the Fairmont Premier insurance company giving him a $175,000
settlement. Fairmont sued recently to get its money back, claiming that
Culpepper is, and was, "exquisitely fit," as evidenced by a September
2013 Tampa Bay Times feature on his gym workouts, and in his having earned a
martial-arts Black Belt, and in his participation for 14 days in the grueling
TV series "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" in 2013.

Atlantic cod is one of the most common ingredients in fish and chips, along
with haddock and plaice in the United Kingdom.
Scottish
people are great fans of it. However, since shipping is cheap, they prefer to
send cod 10,000 miles over to China to be filleted and returned to Scotland
rather than fillet their own fish. It is cheaper for Scotland!

Viruses
can catch viruses
A
group of researchers at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in
France has initiated the discovery that even some viruses can have viruses.
A
tiny virus, called ‘Sputnik’, is the first virus ever discovered that is a
parasite of another virus.
As
livescience.com points out, when it reproduces in a cell infected by the larger
virus, its action impairs the reproduction of mamavirus particles. The group
sequenced Sputnik’s genetic code and discovered that a number of its gene
sequences are similar to those found in a massive survey of genetic material
taken from oceans all over the globe. This suggests that a whole class of
viruses might exist that infect other viruses!
