My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Weird weather today. Sun is breaking through the gray clouds. There is lots of thunder. A little earlier there was a small amount of rain.

The HOA grounds crew did a great job on my small bush that used to lots of pine needles under it. All cleaned out now. All those pine needles were a favorite of spiders.

Until a few months ago, all I knew about Camp Lejeune was that I knew some Marines who trained there before heading to Vietnam. Lately the web browsers and some TV stations have numerous ads every day about a lawsuit and contaminated water supply from the 1950’s to the 1980’s. It is despicable that our government let this contamination occur in the first place for that long…this is the training site for most Marines. Now the media is warning that some of those ads for helping sick or disabled Marines who got sick because of time at the Camp are simply scams. If you know anyone who got sick there during the contamination period, warn them to check with the VA or their congressperson before paying any money to find help. Our Marines do not deserve to be scammed.

Cards v Panthers…Cards losing again at half time. ; Broncos v Raiders tied near half time.

Superstitions

Opening Umbrellas Indoors

You can thank the ancient Egyptians for this bad omen. They used umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun but opening them indoors was considered an insult to the sun god. It was equally as offensive to open one in an area that wasn’t sunny. Another theory traces it back to 18th century England when the mechanics of the "modern" umbrella made them straight-up dangerous when opened in close quarters.
