My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Another nice spring day.

The HOA crew was busy this morning clearing out all the pine needles. The parking lot no longer looks like pine-covered forest ground.

AI was investigated on 60 Minutes last night. The newest AI is BARD from Google. It is different because it doesn’t search the internet for its answers. BARD is full of ‘hallucinations’ that delivers a response that is totally incorrect. The more I see about AI the more there needs to be a disclaimer on everything it produces. There is more than enough false or incorrect information out there without AI adding its 2-cents worth.

Another mass shooting kills 4 and injures 20 at a sweet-sixteen birthday party. So sad.

Just so we don’t forget it is spring, a wind advisory has been issued for most of Northern AZ for tomorrow…up to 35mph wind with up to 50mph gusts.

Enjoy…

Geography…

The Statue of Liberty Isn’t Technically in New York

The Statue of Liberty has become a symbol of New York City since its erection in 1875.

But the colossal sculpture is part of New York only because the Supreme Court deemed it so in 1987. Geographically, however, it is located on the New Jersey side of the state line and is even listed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places.

Moon Facts…

Plants can grow in lunar soil…

Scientists have been experimenting with soil samples brought back to Earth decades ago by the Apollo astronauts and have discovered that the lunar surface material, also called regolith, is capable of sustaining plant life. It’s an exciting discovery for the future of space exploration, which could allow astronauts to grow their own food in space.

State Names Origins…

Alabama

The state of Alabama owes its modern name to Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto, whose 16th-century expedition brought him to the region. There he encountered Native American inhabitants known to De Soto as the Alabamans, who would become the namesake for both the river and the state. The word itself roughly translates to “vegetation gatherers” in the Choctaw language, as Alabama is a combination of the words “alba” meaning vegetation, and “amo” meaning a picker or gatherer. Given Alabama’s lush vegetation — thanks in no small part to its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico and other major rivers — it’s no surprise that the name refers to the state’s incredible natural beauty.
