     Free Rambling Thoughts…
I had a great lunch with Cheryl today. Her grandkids were with her for almost a month. They seemed to have a great time. Their boat trip with their grandfather was less than spectacular. The boat hadn’t been on water from almost 10 years, something broke on the trailer on the way back. They couldn’t spend a lot of time of the water as a boat had problems. Grandpa wouldn’t let them pee off the boat, so they had to use bottles. Not the best way to be introduced to ‘boating’. After two weeks in Michigan, the kids were ready to get home. Cheryl drove about 800 miles the last day—much easier at 25 than 65 years old. Cheryl seems to really want to know about my adventure. After some discussion she decided that a boat trip like that was not for her. So far, everyone seems to be enjoying my trip from afar and I am not finding any one ready to join me on another trip. That’s OK, I went into the trip dumb. Once I was on the river, there was no turning back…even if I had wanted to. I didn’t, but in retrospect I sure put my body through a lot more than any of my previous adventures.

I heard a news report from Phoenix where an ‘elderly’ lady came home from running errands and found her house had been robbed and the home was in great disarray. They interviewed her for the report and she said: “In my 57 years, I have never had anything like this happen.” What is going on? Fifty seven is not ‘elderly’ and she didn’t look or sound ‘elderly’ as she stood there telling her story. In the same newscast there was a story on immigration. They had a sound bite from an elegant elderly—by my definition—woman who said “I’m happy that 1070 passed, there isn’t enough room in this country for any immigrants.” The next sound bite had a brown skinned 30 something guy who was missing several important teeth saying that 1070 was a really bad idea.

Today marks the one year anniversary of our Governor’s signing of 1070…the bill that would let police stop and detain any person suspected of being here illegally.  It is still in the courts but our governor still stands behind her decision. None of her dire predictions of life in AZ without 1070 have come about. The only thing it has done is to have a recall of the Senate President, who ‘authored‘the bill—with actual writing from people outside AZ with their own agenda. Oh and can’t forget: making it embarrassing to live here in AZ sometimes--Non-white tourist travel--socially aware travelers and socially aware conventions are choosing not to come. We did make a lot of headlines, and Baseball took a financial hit on the All Star game—with protesters outside the game, all shown on National TV.

It was cloudy all day, and rained in parts of Flag, but my place didn’t get any at all. The clouds kept us cooler than expected and it was nice to be outside. I have pretty much healed and feeling spunky. I decided not to go to the Great Decisions meeting tonight. I thought this morning that it would be too much, but now I realize I probably should have gone. I haven’t missed one in two years…so it’s not a big deal. When I called this morning, one other person had already called—she is at the Shakespeare Festival in Utah. She’s going to A Midsummer Night’s Dream tonight and Richard III tomorrow. Dream sound like fun, not so much for Richard III.

     Somewhat Useless Information…
¬ One in 250 pregnancies results in identical twins.
¬ The average twin pregnancy lasts only 37 weeks, while the average single pregnancy lasts 40 weeks.
¬ If the mother herself is a fraternal twin, she is five times more likely to have twins.
¬ Twins have been known to develop their own dialect, or language. This is known as "cryptophasia", and only they can understand what is being said.
¬ The term "twin" derives from the ancient German word "twine" meaning "two together".
¬ Because identical twins developed from the same split egg and were fertilized by the same sperm, they share exact matches of their DNA.

     Yeah, It Really Happened…
NORTH NAPLES, Fla. - Florida officials say a domestic beef over razors in the shower ended with a woman's arrest for allegedly hitting her boyfriend on the head with a frying pan. Mary Batson, 22, of North Naples, was arrested for battery after she allegedly conked her live-in boyfriend in the head during a noisy row that began over his refusal to let her borrow a razor. The Naples Daily News said Sunday that Batson denied striking the victim, although she admitted she slammed the pan down on the counter during the argument. Arrest reports said the dispute Thursday escalated quickly from argument to slapstick. The victim claimed Batson scratched him on the chest and face before going for the cookware.
