Random Tidbits

In 1942, a top-secret group of GE engineers built the first American jet engine. Called I-A, the engine produced just 1,300 pounds of thrust.

Just a few years later, the company's second production engine, the J33, developed to power America's first operational fighter jet - the Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star - generated 4,200 pounds.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the General Electric GE90 is currently the most powerful jet engine in the world. Normally generating over 122,000 pounds of thrust, the GE90 generated a record 127,900 pounds of thrust as part of a one-hour, triple-red-line engine stress test. The space shuttle's main engines, on the other hand, produce about 418,000 pounds of thrust each at liftoff.

My Rambling Thoughts

When I returned from the Trans-Siberian trip, I had a low tire on my vehicle. I went to the nearest free air place, about a mile away, and filled the tire with air. I assumed it had just sat too long. Yesterday it was low again. So back for more free air. This morning I headed to Discount Tires, the place I’ve bought tires since they came to Flag decades ago. They checked all my tires, found a small nail, repaired it, rotated and balanced the tires for free. The best part they said it would take 45 minutes and it only took 40 minutes. Great company, good service, and friendly staff.

So the Cards tied in a great 4^th Q with OT. Down here they are known as the ‘Cardiac Cardinals’ for their games. A win would have been better against the lowly Lions, but a tie is so much better than a loss. Go Broncos tonight, I’ll be watching.

It’s a nice day here, clear, warm…not hot, nice breeze. Love this mountain town.

My friend and travel-mate, Ed, from Focus is most interesting. He has so many interesting hobbies. I got an email from him this morning that he is headed to S. Carolina for the National Convention of Souvenir Spoon Collectors. Someday I’m going spend some time in Colorado and visit his home and see some of his many collections. Fascinating.
