Aluminum is very difficult to refine from its natural form. A method wasn't discovered until 1825, and for decades it was so expensive that aluminum was worth more than gold.

The top of the Washington Monument is capped with an 8.9-inch aluminum pyramid. The aluminum cap initially served as the apex of the monument's lightning rod.

Around the United States, aluminum is recycled 50 percent of the time compared to glass and plastic, which are reprocessed less than 25 percent. In a mere 60 days, an aluminum can is recycled, turned into a new can, and back on a store shelf.

My Rambling Thoughts

Today would have been my mother’s 100^th birthday. She provided our family with a spotless, loving, caring home. She did clothing alterations for many…to supplement the family income. She made our shirts from childhood long into adulthood. She could knit, crochet, tat, and do needlepoint. The needle was part of her life. She was an only child, and married my father at 19. He lost his father at a very young age. She spent her entire married life making our family a family. She lived to be 89. She is still missed.

It has really cooled off here. Down about 10° from yesterday. I had to close my bedroom window for the very chilly night temperature. I can’t keep the windows or front door open. The windows have been open 24/7 since early June, the doors open whenever I’m home. Guess it’s time to get ready for fall.

I got an email from Ed, my roommate for the upcoming trip. We are set with some great excursions. I really appreciate his hard work in making my reservations at the same time he made his. It’s not until next spring, but we are ready now. With my cooler weather this early, I’ll be ready for Bora Bora in the spring.

I am rather inclined to silence, and whether that be wise or not, it is at least more unusual nowadays to find a man who can hold his tongue than to find one who cannot.
