Rambling Thoughts
An interesting series of phone calls today. I called the company
that I had 2 stale dated checks again. It had been a week and nobody had gotten
back to me. I tried to decide if I should be the good guy or the pissed off guy
when I called. I chose the good guy. She apologized for not getting back to me
and said she would go check with the supervisor right now to see if they can reissue
the checks quickly. She called me back about 20 minutes later to say the checks
would be reissued on Friday. I thanked her and said I would be looking forward
to the $500 next week. Then about 2 hours later she called back to say that in
checking my account she had found an error. I remained calm and let her talk.
It seems that the company had thought they mailed me a check in 2010 for $7000
but it was never cashed either. I know I never received the check or I would
have cashed it. She apologized and said that my new check would be for the full
amount and she wanted to let me know ahead of time so I wouldn’t think it was a
mistake. How cool is that? Very cool from my point of view. I have to say that
had I now tried to cash the two old checks I might never have known about the
really big check. This wonderful lady sure knows how to make customers happy.
Tomorrow I get to get my new permanent crown. A good deal as the
temporary crown remained in my mouth without having to be put back in. Several
of my previous temporary ones popped out, causing an extra trip to the dentist.
One even came out twice.
Senator
Barry Sanders gave an interesting speech in the senate recently. It just showed
up on my FB page. He was warning the American people that we should no longer
be concerned about the Republicans and Democrats but that we are heading very
quickly for an oligarchy run by the few really wealthy people who choose our
legislators. He mentioned several South American countries that have been run
by oligarchy and how that led to their government downfall. So hard for the
legislature to change this pattern, since they are all beholding to big money
for their seats.

Statistical improvements in the number of unemployed Americans
reflect a limited number of conditions within the job market. Unemployment
claims, for example, furnish one metric for comparing joblessness over time,
but even these numbers only account for a particular portion of the jobless
sector. Underemployed parties and those whose benefits have expired are not
included in the sample when claims are used to determine employment levels. As
a result, today’s workforce may be in worse shape than some of the numbers indicate.
During economic downturns, workers also take jobs outside their fields, often
at levels below those they’d achieve in their primary professions. When these
and other unique considerations are factored in, American unemployment and
underemployment point to higher poverty levels across society.

Brazil opens its arms to anyone who wants to become a citizen.
Adopting a child from Brazil automatically makes you Brazilian, according to
the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Brazil’s Ministry of Justice shares
that you can get a “common naturalization” if you’re really interested in
becoming a Brazilian citizen. Simply living in Brazil for at least 15 years can
get you effortless naturalization.

A Houston woman who says she is a stripper is being sued in small
claims court by one of her customers.
Her stage name is Nomi. She says she works in a Houston strip club
and admits she went out a few times with one of her customers named Robert."I've never heard of a customer suing a stripper," Nomi said. "I just don't understand how this person can sue me for money that he freely gave. I would never have even taken it had I known I had to pay it back."

Robert wouldn't say much, but confirms he met Nomi at a strip club. He says she owes him about $3,000 worth of DVDs, a laptop and cash, and he's suing to get it back.
I didn't know strippers accepted laptops. How do you fit it in the G-string, I wonder.
Gerald Treece, attorney and law professor at South Texas College of Law, said it comes down to whether it was all gifts. "It has no really great legal value," he said. "It was 'wow' value, and it all depends on whose facts the court believes."
