So the weatherman last night said we were in for a dry weekend, as
the monsoon was taking a break. Well, he was a little off. Nice shower this
afternoon to keep the green around town. Then a real downpour ensued, forcing
the closing of all windows and doors to keep out the rain as it bounced of the sidewalk.
It is really quiet throughout the day here at my place. No kids,
no skateboards, no games of tag…until school ends and the kids get back,
between 12 and 1 for the littlest ones and 3:30 for the older ones. They don’t
usually come outside to play until after 4p…guess they are doing homework. Then
the neighborhood comes alive once again until dark.Lots of stuff has sure come out since the shooting of the young man in MO. Yesterday there was a story that he was the ‘primary suspect’ in a robbery that took a pack of cigars from a convenience store which was quickly debunked saying there is videotape of the theft, but the officer who shot him didn't know about the theft, and then later that the officer saw the cigars in the boy's pocket and thought he might be the thief. Then the new head cop said the boy was basically shot for ‘jaywalking’. The other thing that sure has me wondering is the number of military tanks and vehicles that are being ‘given’ to many local PD’s around the US. HLS gives out grants for local PD’s to buy armored tanks and heavy artillery from DOD. This process basically gives the stuff to towns for free. And it seems that many towns are happy to fill out some paperwork for free stuff. While some towns have citizens who are against this free weaponry, PD’s seem happy to get it. The story goes that these PD’s need to be ready to stop another 9/11. However, the images of a tank with a turret pointed at peaceful protestors in MO certainly paints a much different picture. I’ve seen many photos online of this incident asking people where the picture was taken. Most do not believe it was taken in our heartland. As was shown in MO, when the cops show excessive force, the peaceful demonstrators do not always stay peaceful. As soon as the State Troopers took over and walked with the protestors, things calmed down immediately. Hopefully a lesson has been learned.

comes this story of a kid with a seriously skewed sense of priorities.
A German teen tried to drain an entire pond with water hoses after dropping his iPhone during a fishing trip.
The unidentified teen was with other members of an angling club and was not allowed by fellow fishermen to dive into the pond, so he returned hours later with an idea to drain the pond: use a pump and two water hoses to direct the water into a nearby toilet.
It didn't work. The toilet wasn't connected to the sewage system, so his efforts ended up flooding a parking lot.
"I knew the phone was probably dead but wanted to get the data card back with the numbers, pictures and videos of my friends," he said.
The teen now has to pay for damage to the toilet and the cleanup.
