My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

A nice fall day. The HOA is busy trimming the bushes each unit has in front of their picture window. I asked the guy to clean out the needles that are all twisted into the bush I have. Hopefully he does it. Lots of tiny creatures…spiders…have made a home there.

I headed out early (7:15) for a blood draw. There was a new lady at the window, who said calling for ultrasound is always 'hit or miss'. Luckily, everyone knows me and was in and out in about 25 minutes. Smiling always helps.

I didn’t watch the first season of Abbott Elementary last year. I started with Season 2. It is about the staff at a poor inner-city school. After working at a small school on the Rez, Red Lake Day School, many of the situations are very relatable. I’m enjoying it.

I saw a recent interview with Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks and one of the Shark Tank crew. A very interesting billionaire, who said many years ago, his goal was to retire at 35. Now, much older, he said he realized the money he had could be used for good, and the more money he had, the more good he could do. He’s #227 on Forbes’ 400 billionaires. A few years ago, he set up Cost Plus Pharmacy, that offers low prices on many high-priced drugs. He is one of the good guys.

Superstitions

Birthday Candle Wishes

Like many others on the list, wishing on candles dates to the ancient Greeks when they would bake cakes and top them with candles to ask Artemis (the mood goddess) for a favor. The smoke from the extinguished candles was believed to carry the message up to the gods as it rises.
