‡ Free Rambling Thoughts…
I finished running errands in time for the rain to fall this afternoon. I hadn’t been to Target (French pronunciation, please) for a long time. I decided to check it out for some sales. I found them, but also found most of Flagstaff at the store. Parents with kids in almost every aisle; picking up stuff for the start of school. I was sympathetic, but many of them had just left their carts in the aisle while shopping. They of course parked in the middle of the aisle so they could see everything in the aisle, and still see their kids. Another cart could not get around them. No reason to get upset, I just finished up as quickly as possible and got out. The sales were almost worth the time and hassle. I got home, just as one of three big storms started. Lots of rain, peacefulness, more rain, peacefulness, and then another storm. Glad I was inside during all that mess. I even had to turn on the lights in the living room during the darkest periods.
I called the Assistant Editor this morning. He hasn’t called back, so guess I’ll try again tomorrow. Next week is the City Council Meeting and the demonstrators are trying a two pronged demonstration: A silent vigil—with tape across the mouth both inside and outside the meeting—and an email/call to the entire council, including the mayor asking for an end to this destruction of the Sacred Peaks. Hopefully this will not lead to more arrests. There have been many silent protests outside city hall over the years, with no arrests that I am aware of. I don’t think anyone can be arrested for the email, call part, unless there are threats against the elected official.
One of my FB friends—a former AIM member--made some interesting posts today. She says she lives in OK, and is attached to many ‘causes’ including Native Issues like saving Bear Butte in the Black Hills and Flagstaff’s sacred peaks. [While acting in SD I visited Bear Butte and learned the sacred story from some of my staff. Non-Natives want to turn it into a concert venue. That is another fight for sacred land that has been going on for decades.] Her posts were YouTube entries for Floyd Westerman and Johnny Cash. Floyd has been linked several times in this blog. His 1970 album ‘Custer Died for Your Sins’ was very inspirational to disseminate the voice of the Natives back then. Johnny Cash did several songs regarding Natives. I’m going to link to a couple of those today as they are spot on for the current Peak’s controversy.
I’m hearing way too much ‘news’ about the Republican nomination process. Every day there is a new front runner. I really don’t care. When they decide, then I will listen. Right now, when I listen, it is just babble of half-truths. I will definitely be listening when someone is nominated. Until then, anyone announcing that they are going to be running for President, I will simply change channels. That’s my plan, and just like our local paper on the Peaks, I will hold to it, until something becomes ‘news’.

QINGDAO, China - A Chinese man surprised his girlfriend by proposing marriage after he and 48 friends performed a dance routine while dressed as giant carrots. Pan Kun recruited friends to join him Saturday for the dance in the city of Qingdao's Aofan Square and his girlfriend, Zhang Xinyu, initially thought she was only a spectator and called her boyfriend to tell him about the spectacle, the Wall Street Journal's China Real Time blog reported Wednesday.
However, Pan unveiled himself after the dance, to the theme song of Jiangsu TV dating show "If You Are the One," and asked Zhang to be his wife. Zhang accepted the proposal while a crowd cheered for her to "Marry him!" The blog said local media reports indicate the stunt cost Pan $15,600.
