My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Warming up today, still cold at night.

I’m hooked on ‘22 Olympics. Been watching early luge, biathlon, speed skating, and ski jumping this morning. Great way to spend the day. I also did some cleaning of bathroom, bedroom, and office.

Since my retirement over a decade ago, I usually catch The View a couple of times a week or more. With the current Whoopi thing, lots are talking about The View, in its 25^th year since Barbara Walters started it. One comedian pointed out the show is THE View and that the suspension of Whoopi shows that there is only THE view of the network that counts. Another writer pointed out that ‘free speech’ is easy when everyone agrees and that true free speech is when an opinion is not popular to everyone, or even the majority. I remember years ago when the ACLU was in court to allow Nazi believers to march in a parade. They were finally allowed in the parade…and that is real free speech. The first amendment is certainly one of the strongest in our democracy and most controversial of the amendments. While Whoopi’s comment showed her lack of knowledge, she did not say that her view was the only view. Does that mean that she can’t have that view?

I keep forgetting that the ROC is the Russian Olympic Committee due to the massive cheating the Russian government team was charged with. I see it as a good compromise for the athletes. This is the last Olympics they have to compete under the Olympic flag.
