TODAY’s HOLY MACKEREL: 1865 - Steamboat "Sultana" explodes in Mississippi River, kills up to 1,547. 1450 of 2000 paroled Union POWs on their way home are killed when river steamer "Sultana" blows up

MY FREE RAMBLING THOUGHTS
Another windy day. Ran some errands. A Rez friend ran out of gas on the summit, so I got some gas and helped him out. Haven’t driven to the Summit for a long time. I shouldn’t have been surprised when I found road construction. Everything worked out fine.

Karma. What goes around comes around. Before the last elections many democratic incumbents found their local ‘town hall’ meetings were interrupted by angry people. It was soon shown that the ‘Tea Party’ had developed a plan of action for many of them on how to disrupt meetings. Well now the tables have turned, to a degree. There don’t seem to be any action plans, just upset voters asking very tough questions of those who are most concerned about the economy. Young and old do not want Medicare turned over to private insurance companies. The voters want to know why rich individuals and big corporations got tax cuts. There is a lot of yelling, but sadly no answers.

THIS REALLY WORKS…
>Toss a pillowcase in your luggage to use as a laundry bag while you're away and to keep clean clothes separate from the soiled ones on the way home.
>Baking soda on a clean damp sponge cleans gently inside and outside the microwave and never leaves a harsh chemical smell. Rinse well with water.

SOMEWHAT USELESS INFORMATION…
>The Cadbury Creme Egg plant at Bournville UK can produce more than 1.5 million eggs per day. In the UK, over 200 million cream eggs are sold annually, three for every person in the UK.
>The original advertising for the treat featured the tagline "How do you eat yours?", based on the fact that there are so many different ways to enjoy the egg.
>In 2008, the new 'Here Today, Goo Tomorrow' campaign was launched, showcasing creme eggs on amusing missions to release their Goo.

UNUSUAL NEWS ITEM:
MEDINA, Ohio — The eggs may not be fresh, but they are drawing attention at an Ohio supermarket.
A female mallard duck is nesting atop bags of mulch just outside the main entrance of a Giant Eagle store in Medina in northeast Ohio. A small sign advises shoppers to beware of the bird and to grab their mulch from another pile.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports the duck is sitting on at least 10 eggs in a nest assembled on top of an 8-foot stack of bags. Store officials think she laid the eggs a couple of weeks ago.
A store spokeswoman told the newspaper two male mallards were seen in the parking lot earlier this spring.

A LITTLE LAUGH:
Jimmy: 'Hey, Mike! How's your new pet fish doing? You told me he was really something special.'
Mike: 'To tell the truth, I'm really disappointed in him. The guy who sold him to me said I could teach him to sing like a bird.'
Jimmy: 'What? Let me get this straight... You bought a fish because you thought you could teach him to sing like a bird?'
Mike: 'Well, yeah. After all, you know, he's a parrot fish.'
Jimmy: 'Now listen, Mike, while you might be able to teach a parrot to sing, you're never going to get anywhere with a parrot fish.'
Mike: 'That's what you think! It just so happens this fish CAN sing. The thing is, he's terribly off-key and it's driving me crazy. Do you know how hard it is to tuna fish?'

2004 Inductee: A self-taught pianist, Floyd Cramer was one of the architects of the “Nashville Sound,” a merger of country and pop that helped revive the former genre as it emerged from a commercially fallow period.
