My Rambling Thoughts
Nice fall Saturday. Took a nice walk this morning. Aspens on the Peaks are starting to change color. Beautiful.

Lots of weekend traffic and lots of fender benders. Tourists seem to believe that they can stop anywhere on the highway to look at a tree or a motel. Never mind that locals have places to go, people to see, and things to do. One of the joys of living in a beautiful place. I paid the BBB tax for decades when I came into town for the weekend. Recently the geniuses at that board decided that our town needed ‘street art’. Not like the various street art of 3D art, they have put up around our town, but actual ‘paint it on the street’ art. At a busy intersection downtown, they have painted an ad for tourism. Lots of money for something that will probably last a year in good shape and then have a long slow death. Our town has lots of snow in the winter months, they use cinders on the roads as chemicals are hard on the environment, and then there are the snow plows. The ‘art’ is taking up the entire intersection where two busy two-lane streets cross. The long-time locals are not at all happy, but the board doesn’t seem phased. Well, it is a little late, since it was a secret project until the painting started. The board promises to get more input on their next project. We’ll have to wait and see.

Bizarre News
*--------------- The Pink Panther ---------------*
A Russian mining company has unearthed a massive pink diamond they believe could be the most expensive gem yet recovered by the group. The 27.85-carat pink gem was recovered by Alrosa PJSC from the company's alluvial mines in the northwest part of Yakutia in Russia's Far East. According to Alrosa, the pink gem is of jewelry quality with almost no defects. It measures 22.47 by 15.69 by 10.9 millimeters. Until the latest diamond was unearthed, the biggest pink gem recovered by Alrosa measured 3.86-carats. "Experts of Alrosa are currently studying this gem to decide on whether to sell it as a raw diamond or cut it," Evgeny Agureev, head of the United Selling Organization of ALROSA, said in a news release. "Big gems, especially of rare colors, traditionally enjoy high demand at auctions. Considering that no similar gems have been before in Alrosa's history, we can say it will be the most expensive diamond of all time in Alrosa, if it is decided to cut the diamond in the company." Earlier this year, a humongous pink diamond, measuring 59.60-carats, sold at auction in Hong Kong for $71.2 million -- the most ever paid for a gem at auction.

My Rambling Thoughts
Our retirement group had a nice long lunch yesterday. By the time I got home, it was time to get other things done, thus, no posting yesterday.

I headed out early today for my appointment about my CPAC machine. Yesterday I had to pick up a copy of my usage from the machine provider. I have had this on my mind since I got the letter about denial of service from Medicare. Turns out, all the worrying was for naught. The letter was because a month ago I met with the Dr. about my CPAP machine and he talked about my meds at the same time. Medicare doesn’t let the Dr. do that, so they denied paying for that visit. Too bad it just didn’t say that. Dr. is happy with my use and results, so I don’t have to see him until Spring. That’s nice. About the CPAC yearly review, he looked at the results I brought him. ‘I see you are using it regularly. Good.’ Then ‘Do you have any questions about the machine?’ ‘Nope’. ‘OK thanks for coming in.’ This review, like others, is just a rule of Medicare and must be done in person, with the Dr. and only one thing can be discussed. Crazy.
My tech guy is amazing. I purchased a 5 year Norton subscription a year ago. Turns out they must install the newest version. When I called they also offered me a great deal on Office 365 Professional, which has everything and since it is subscription, it is now upgraded for free. I’ve been using an older version of Office Home and Student which is not everything by far.

‘Clean the Swamp’ battle cry has kinda proven to be words with no action. Several of his ‘GREAT’ cabinet have been bilking the taxpayers on private/chartered jets to attend meetings. One trip cost $400K and the Sec. Price says he will pay for his seat, $50K. Really? No matter what these newbies think, they have NOT been anointed. Also, tired of 45’s words about the ‘great job’ we are doing in Puerto Rico. We are not. Finally, so many on the right were against opening diplomatic channels with Cuba. I am concerned that some diplomats have suffered injury from unknown origin in Cuba. So, 45 says they didn’t find out what it was and Cuba didn’t help enough so he is pulling many diplomats and cutting VISA’s to Cuba. Glad I made it twice in the tiny window that was opened by Obama.

Bizarre News
Was Adolf Hitler a boxer or briefs man? This 70-year-old question was finally answered recently when a pair of the fuhrer's underpants was sold at auction.

The answer: boxers, more or less.

The underwear was left behind in a suite at the luxury Parkhotel Graz in Austria after he stayed there in April 1938.

Auctioneer Bill Panagopulos said he believed the underwear was sent to the hotel's laundry department and were only returned after Hitler and his entourage had checked out. The seller was the grandson of the hotel's owners at the time.

The 19-inch long white linen shorts have a 'surprisingly large' 39-inch waist and are embroidered with the initials 'A.H.'.

Panagopulos, who owns Alexander Historical Auctions in Chesapeake City, Maryland, said, "We've sold underwear belonging to Eva Braun, but never any belonging to Hitler himself. I think this is the first pair to come to market.

"It's a fascinating thing. It's as close as you can get to Adolf Hitler, literally."

The shorts were sold to a private buyer for $6,737.

My Rambling Thoughts
Day started out a little cloudy. I headed out to do my weekly shopping. By the time I got back there was a huge very dark cloud up in the sky. About 5 minutes after I brought in my supplies, the rain started. Still coming down. Welcomed by most of us, unless you had to be outside.

Goodness. 45 is telling Indiana people that Healthcare will be back on the ‘front burner’ next year as soon as reconciliation starts again. And now he is ready to do tax reform. Promises are cheap. Not very much information, if any, in his speech…the speech that promised to give us serious information. Not a surprise.

*- World's first Sand Hostel open in Australia -*

A handful of lucky winners were given the opportunity to stay in a hostel made entirely out of sand in Australia. Mad Max and The Blue Lagoon World production designer Jon Dowding designed the "Sand Hostel" on The Gold Coast, Kurrawa Terrace. "Hostelworld North America and Destination Gold Coast have transformed beautiful Broadbeach into a hostel made out of sand - featuring everything your dream hostel would include: an outdoor bar, beach volleyball, comfy beds, good vibes, DJs and live music," the hostel's Facebook page states. Denis "Sandman" Masoud used 24 tons of sand to craft the unique hostel featuring an eight-bed dorm and a private double room. A total of 10 people were chosen to stay at the pop-up hostel, complete with free food, drinks, and other luxuries.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
