2 jokes for the day
A couple of terrorist were making letter bombs. After they had finished, one said: “Do you think I put enough explosive in this envelope?
“I don’t know,” said the other. “Open it and see.”
“But it will explode.”
“Don’t be stupid! It’s not addressed to you!

During the initial space flights, NASA discovered that biro pens didn’t work under zero gravity conditions.
To beat the problem, NASA spent 6 years and $2 million in designing a pen for use in space.
The pen would work under zero gravity conditions due to the pressurized ink inside, it would work under subzero conditions, underwater, on glass and virtually any surface known to man.
The Russians used a pencil.

Yep, It Really Happened
Bangor, Maine -You can almost picture it in your mind: a backyard Fourth of July party in Maine. The state only legalized fireworks there two years ago, so they are still kind of novel.
There is some drinking going on and an adventurous (let's call him) young man decides to play the class clown by tying a mortar tube on top of his head. Maybe he was going to pretend to be a sparkler. But when he "pretended" to light the mortar things went very, very bad.
22-year-old Devon Staples died at the scene.
"I was the first one who got there. There was no rushing him to the hospital. There was no Devon left when I got there," his brother, Cody Staples, said, adding that his brother accidentally lit the fuse by holding a lighter near his head.
"It was a freak accident... But Devon was not the kind of person who would do something stupid. He was the kind of person who would pretend to do something stupid to make people laugh."
Devon became the first person killed by fireworks in Maine since the state legalized them.
"He loved making people happy," his brother said. "Anyone who would want to give a tribute to Devon should go out and do something nice for someone. Show some love to someone you don't know."
Just don't do it by lighting fireworks on top of your head.

Somewhat Useless Information
Nations who were on the Gold Standard during the 19th century until 1914 experienced little or no inflationary trends.

In 1971 the U.S. decoupled the value of the dollar from gold altogether. Now a U.S. dollar is only worth 12 cents of what it was worth in 1950.

***
Hyperinflation is a situation where the price increases are so out of control that the concept of inflation is meaningless.

The post-WWII hyperinflation of Hungary holds the record for the most rapid monthly inflation increase ever: 41,900,000,000,000,000 percent for July 1946, which means prices doubled every 13.5 hours.

Disclaimer: All opinions are mine…feel free to agree or disagree.
All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
