MY FREE RAMBLING THOUGHTS
I am always concerned when a government quickly passes any bill. That is especially true in AZ. I am against knee jerk actions to many things. The AZ legislature passed a bill today in both houses to prevent those crazy church people from protesting at the funerals in Tucson. From what I understand, the bill keeps protestors and signs at least 300 feet away from the funeral for one hour before or after the service. It is aimed at one group of crazies that have been carrying signs at military and other funerals for a couple of years, saying something like God punishes wrongdoers. I agree that these fanatics have no business doing what they do. They have no business spreading their venom to such a sad event. This group had announced that they would be at the 9 year old girl’s funeral tomorrow. It is time that Americans stand up to this form of protest. While I need to read the new law, at present, I am glad that the legislature is attempting to bring peace to the families of those who died while simply attending their elected representatives attempt to meet the people.
As a gun owner, it is time to change the laws on how people get guns, where people can carry them, and what kind of gun they can own. I cannot think of a sane scenario where any American citizen needs to have a pistol that will fire 30 rounds in less than 15 seconds. The idea that people in AZ and other states can legally carry that much fire power without even needing a permit or gun safety course is sick. Our former governor had vetoed that bill—twice. It was one of Jan’s first law making signatures. Soon after it was passed, our retirement group had lunch at a local BBQ place. While we were there, a 6’ plus skinny 40-something guy, with boots and a cowboy hat came in with a gun strapped to his waist. We finished our lunch and have never returned. I had no idea why he had the gun. If someone had decided to rob this small strip mall restaurant, I certainly didn’t want to be in any crossfire. I didn’t know if he is a good shot. I didn’t know if he had just had a fight with his girlfriend, or if he had just left a bar somewhere and was buzzed. Open carry, concealed carry, or any form of carrying a loaded weapon into a public place is a bad idea. No one can tell the good guys from the bad guys. The days of the Wild West shootouts should have ended with the pony express. Even at the Tucson tragedy there was not a shoot out. One gun, one shooter and a lot of heroic citizens who stopped him. It was not the OK Corral. We in AZ still have so much to learn from history.
It looked like we were going to have snow all day today. None came. It was cloudy, it was cool. It would have been a nice day for snow. I ran some errands and saw a few friends as I jumped around town. I enjoyed the day and it was nice to be outside for part of the day.

UNUSUAL NEWS ITEM-- MSNBC
An Italian man who was shot in the head during a New Year's celebration is on the mend after sneezing out the bullet that got stuck in his head, European media reported on Tuesday.
Darco Sangermano, 28, was in the notoriously raucous city of Naples with his girlfriend when he was hit by a stray .22 caliber bullet in the temple duriing New Year's Eve festivities, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The bullet reportedly pierced the right side of his head behind his eye socket and became lodged in his nasal passage.
He was rushed to a hospital emergency ward shortly after midnight. While waiting for doctors, he sneezed the bullet out of his right nostril.
Doctors operated to remove bone splinters in his eye, but he was able to return to his hometown of Turin.
Sangermano will undergo laser surgery on his eye to repair retina damage, but is expected to make a full recovery, the BBC reported.

A LITTLE LAUGH
I was working in the sun all day, putting finishing touches on the new deck outside my house. My sister pulled into the driveway, greeted me, and looked over my work.
"Wow," she gushed, "you're an expert."
Feeling complimented and satisfied, but...trying not to seem egotistical, I responded... "Once you get going, it's pretty easy!"
