TODAY’s HOLY MACKEREL: 1948 - Glenn Taylor, Idaho Senator, arrested in Birmingham Alabama for trying to enter a meeting through a door marked "for Negroes"

MY FREE RAMBLING THOUGHTS
It’s much too hard to look for May flowers with our continued high winds and today, our very cool temperatures. Any color is being ruined by the overnight lows in the twenties.

I had my second swelling attack in a week, so I guess it’s back to Allegra, which keeps them at one a month. This is getting to be a real pain, as even though the meds do slow it down and seem to stop major swelling, I basically lose the day. It is difficult to eat, drink water, and sometimes it makes me sleepy.

The damage in the south from all those tornadoes is freaky. One of the many amazing things is how no one is talking about cutting government spending. Every report has Americans happy that the Feds are on the way. It is good that our government is able to help at this great time of need.

So Will and Kate didn’t want toasters, blenders, and other typical household wedding gifts. They instead published a list of charities they support and asked that people donate to them. Very cool. I saw today that even some of the charity leaders were invited guests to the wedding. The times they are a changin’.

Hopefully tomorrow will be less windy and I will get to spend some time outside without being blown around. I ran a few errands today, and it was not pleasant to be outside. The wind chill dropped our temp about 10° throughout the day. When I did go out, the thermometer said 45° but the wind chill made it 37°.

Sadly, Libya is starting to sound a lot like Iraq. Today, one of Gaddafi’s sons and three of his grandkids were killed by NATO bombings. Such a tragedy. Sounds like the same thing that happened in Iraq.

UNUSUAL NEWS ITEM:
SANDOWN, England - A British pub singer said he is facing a racial harassment charge for singing the disco tune "Kung Fu Fighting" with a pair of Chinese people in the bar. Simon Ledger, 34, said he was singing the Carl Douglas tune Sunday at the Driftwood Beach Bar in Sandown, England, and noticed a man of Chinese origin and his mother gesturing toward him and taking cell phone pictures, The Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday. Ledger, who said he regularly performs the Grammy-winning 1974 disco tune, said he received a call from police later while he was dining at a Chinese restaurant asking to meet with him about the incident. The singer said he was questioned and placed under arrest on a racial harassment charge.

A LITTLE LAUGH:
When a customer left his cell phone in my store, I scrolled through his saved numbers, stopped at "Mom" and pushed send.
His mother answered, and I told her what happened.
"Don't worry," she said, "I'll take care of it."
A few minutes later, the cell phone rang. It was "Mom."
"Martin," she said, "you left your cell phone at the convenience store."

TODAY’s HOLY MACKEREL: 2009 - The United Kingdom formally ends combat operations in Iraq

MY FREE RAMBLING THOUGHTS
Our first Red Flag Warning of the year. It’s a very complicated formula from the weather service, not the forest service that says it’s windy and the forest is dry and there should be no campfires in the forest. April is a very early time for these warnings and lets us know what is ahead.

Our governor made the Colt 45 our official state firearm. Yet another dumb move. Something about this weapon taming the west. Just how did that happen? By killing our fellow human beings…outlaws, lawmen, peaceful citizens and Native Americans. I saw a gun dealer on the news who hopes this will increase his business. Such a vile and violent remembrance. The our governor signed a bill to give the Tea Party their own license plate. We already have many ‘vanity’ plates that donate money to colleges. The only good thing about this new law is that we will be able to spot the real dedicated Tea Party members. Maybe that will be a good thing.

SOMEWHAT USELESS INFORMATION…
>During the Royal Wedding ceremony, royals sat on the right and commoners on the left. All the women in Westminster Abbey donned hats to show their respect. And, the bride won't throw her bouquet to bunch of single ladies. Instead, she'll lay it at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, which the Queen Mum did back in 1923.
>Kate will follow in Princess Diana's footsteps and leave out "obey" in her wedding vows. Instead, she said she will "love, comfort, honor and keep" William. Princess Di did the same thing when she married Prince Charles in 1981, but back then it was seen as a pretty controversial move.
>William and Kate's wedding reception is set to outshine that of Will's parents Charles and Diana. After the ceremony has taken place, 600 chosen guests will enjoy a lunchtime buffet, unlike his parents who celebrated with a 120-guest breakfast hosted by the Queen.
>William and Kate got their own Royal British stamp last week. The stamps feature two photos of the couple-- one is a copy of the official engagement portrait photographed in the Royal Council Chamber and the other is a casual shot taken in the Palace's Cornwall Room.
>Prince William will not wear a ring after the marriage, but it's been reported that Kate will wear a gold ring passed down to William from the Queen. According to tradition, the Welsh gold for royal rings comes from the Clogau St David's mine at Bontddu in North Wales.
>So as to not follow in the footsteps of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, William and Kate are allegedly going to be the first royal couple to enter into a pre-nuptial agreement.

UNUSUAL NEWS ITEM:
A woman in Tampa may have figured she'd found a better Easter gift for her elderly father than a basket of candy: a tryst with a prostitute.
Pia Kirchberg, 51, and father Maurice Kirchberg, 80, were both arrested over the holiday weekend after the daughter allegedly tried to buy dear old dad a hooker, according to abcactionnews.com.
Cops were conducting a sting in an area of Tampa known for prostitution when the younger Kirchberg went looking for a pretty woman.
But police say the father-daughter pair, whose hometown is Dubuque, Iowa, wasn't looking to spend big. Pia Kirchberg allegedly offered an undercover officer just $20 to have sex with her father, according to the report.
Both were charged with soliciting prostitution and released on $250 bond. They were two of eight people busted in the sting.
"Prostitution is illegal. It doesn't matter how old you are," police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said. "If we catch you trying to solicit a prostitute, you're going to jail."

A LITTLE LAUGH:
Marvin found the following ransom note slipped under his front door. "Bring $50,000 to the 17th hole of your country club tomorrow at 10:00 AM if you ever want to see your wife alive again."
But it was well after 1:00 PM by the time he arrived at the designated meeting spot. A masked man stepped from behind a bush and demanded, "You're three hours late. What took you so long?"
"Give me a break!" said Marvin, pointing to his scorecard. "I'm a 27 handicap."

MY FREE RAMBLING THOUGHTS
I complain about our wind, but thankfully we have no tornadoes here. Watching the aftermath and now footage of the tornadoes as they hit, I certainly see that Flags 45-50mph winds ain’t nuttin. The lives disrupted by yesterday’s super cells in beyond belief.

Our group met for lunch. Mary had a good time with her grandkids for Easter. About a week from now she gets to have a colonoscopy. The day before she and Mike are going on a balloon ride in Sedona—at 4:30am. They will go down in the morning. If it was me, I think I would spend the night in Sedona. It’s only about 40 minutes away, but every few minutes of sleep counts. Cheryl is headed to Santa Fe for a grant writing workshop in two weeks. She won’t be around Flag for her birthday, so we are celebrating it next week in Williams. We’ll be going to Bearizona, a new local wildlife park with a drive through and walk through area. It takes about 2 hours to do the whole park. Then we will have lunch and then Cheryl is serving her favorite birthday cake. Should be a good time.

A few days ago I was busy avoiding the hoopla of the royal wedding. That has almost become impossible. I’m sure if I turn on the TV tomorrow, that is all I will see. I’m sure the internet will be abuzz with everything about the wedding. Between the live reports, the repeated footage, and the incessant commentary on everything may be exciting for some. I will do my best to avoid it.

>Just soak the oranges in boiling water for five minutes then peel as usual. As a bonus, the "white" part of the peel will come off along with the peel to give an awesome look to your salad.
>This is a great tip to keep your oil-based salad dressings from going to the bottom of the bowl and keeping it on your greens! Take your dressing and heat it in the microwave for ten seconds before using.

SOMEWHAT USELESS INFORMATION…
Note: I couldn’t resist a little wedding trivia
>In the U.S., the bride traditionally walks down the aisle last, after the bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girl, and ring bearer. In England, the bride is the first down the aisle to emphasize her importance. Another key difference in the wedding precession is in America, the groomsmen walk arm-in-arm with the bridesmaids. British bridesmaids, however, follow the bride without escort, while the groomsmen, known in England as ushers, stand in the front.
>Each wedding party in England typically has bridesmaids around the same age as the bride and groom, but also younger bridesmaids, from ages 10-12. In the U.S., the bridesmaids are usually close friends or family of the bride or groom and are around the same age
>British women traditionally wear hats—big ones—to weddings. At a Christian ceremony in the U.S., the bride is usually the only person with something on her head.
>Generally in the England, weddings take place in the afternoon. After the ceremony, the guests attend a wedding breakfast. There are a couple of theories about the origin of the term wedding breakfast. One theory is that the name comes from the tradition of the bride and groom fasting before the wedding, therefore, the reception would be when they would break their fast. Another is that the wedding breakfast is the first meal of the couple's married life, just as breakfast is the first meal of the day.
>Pre-wedding bashes are called bachelor and bachelorette parties in the U.S., while in the U.K. they are referred to as stag night or stag weekend for the men and hen night for the women. Britain has more legal restrictions about weddings than America. For example, in England and Wales, couples cannot legally get married outdoors unless the location has been approved by local authority.
>In the U.S., wedding cakes—both the main cake and, in some cases, a groom's cake are a major part of the reception. In Britain, the dessert is traditionally a fruit cake. The top-tier of the fruit cake is saved for the christening of the couples' first child. The top-tier in the U.S. is saved for the couple's first anniversary.

Cavalcade of Rednecks: (1) A 26-year-old woman was charged with a grab-and-go at a convenience store in Crestview, Fla.--an 18-pack of beer stuffed under her shirt. (2) A 25-year-old man was arrested for trespass after, he said, he forgot exactly which strip club he had been banned from and accidentally wandered back into that one. (3) Sharon Newling was arrested in Salisbury, N.C., for shooting at her stepson (not at him, she said, but shooting toward him to make him stop working on his car). (4) Stephanie Preston married Bobby Duncan in Greensboro, N.C., at our lady of Jiffy Lube cathedral. (5) Carey Newman, 34, was arrested in Franklin County, Ill., charged with throwing a lawn mower at another woman

A LITTLE LAUGH:
One night our dog suddenly began barking almost every night at around 3 a.m.
Irritated and sleepy, my husband, Larry, searched the back yard for what might have disturbed this otherwise peaceful animal.
For three days he found nothing amiss. When the dog woke up the neighborhood a fourth night at 3 a.m. with frantic barking Larry finally snuck around the house through the alley only to discover our quiet neighbor, the last man you'd suspect of wrongdoing, throwing pebbles over the fence at the dog.
My husband demanded to know what he was doing.
"My mother-in-law is visiting," the embarrassed neighbor explained. "If she gets woken up in the middle of the night one more time she says she'll leave."

TODAY’s HOLY MACKEREL: 1942 - "WW II" titled so, as result of Gallup Poll

MY FREE RAMBLING THOUGHTS
Ah, the winds dropped down, so the ever vigilant forest service held a prescribed burn. So while it was a nice day, the huge smoke plumes of smoke visible from my house, and just about everywhere else in town. I had read about the burn on the web and in the local paper. Still, seeing that huge amount of smoke makes one nervous. The entire town was ‘hazy’, even though the forest service said they determined this was a good day to keep smoke out of the town. I guess there is a difference between ‘smoke’ and ‘haze’. But the ‘haze’ does smell like smoke and burns your eyes when outside.

President Obama showed us a copy of his real birth certificate with hopes of stopping the circus that is taking people’s minds off the real problems in our country. Even this is not going to stop the crazies. Donnie Trump, ringmaster de jour, says it is a good first step, but now wants to know how he was a poor student yet ended up in Harvard. I wish these crazies would be exposed for what they are…sore losers with racist tendencies. Conspiracy Theories are part of our country. We like to speculate when there is a ‘black swan’ moment. Roswell? JFK assassination? 9/11? And now, How did Obama become President? Lots of books are written. Lot of money is made. Somehow I find this particular conspiracy theory is different. The President should not have to stoop to this theory.

SOMEWHAT USELESS INFORMATION…
>Each wedding party in England typically has bridesmaids around the same age as the bride and groom, but also younger bridesmaids, from ages 10-12. In the U.S., the bridesmaids are usually close friends or family of the bride or groom and are around the same age
>British women traditionally wear hats—big ones—to weddings. At a Christian ceremony in the U.S., the bride is usually the only person with something on her head.

UNUSUAL NEWS ITEM:
Is there something stuck on your teeth? Oh no, that’s just a tattoo of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
One man has officially won The Windsor Knot’s royal wedding mania title by willingly paying £1,000 to submit to six hours in a dentist’s chair in order to have the famous duo emblazoned on his choppers. (The prize? Ridicule!)
British plumber Barmy Baz Franks, 29, got a dentist to use ultrafine brushes and stencils to paint images of the smiling royals. The temporary ivory art – known as “gnasher tats” – will last roughly three months, depending on how much Barmy Baz Franks brushes. “I’ve done some unusual dental cosmetics in my time, but this was certainly one of the strangest,” said the dentist, Dr. Neil Gerrard,in an interview with Small World News Service.
The patient says he was just doing his part to help celebrate the April 29 nuptials. “I love the royal family and this was my way of lending my support to their big day,” said Franks.

TODAY’s HOLY MACKEREL: 1865 - Steamboat "Sultana" explodes in Mississippi River, kills up to 1,547. 1450 of 2000 paroled Union POWs on their way home are killed when river steamer "Sultana" blows up

MY FREE RAMBLING THOUGHTS
Another windy day. Ran some errands. A Rez friend ran out of gas on the summit, so I got some gas and helped him out. Haven’t driven to the Summit for a long time. I shouldn’t have been surprised when I found road construction. Everything worked out fine.

Karma. What goes around comes around. Before the last elections many democratic incumbents found their local ‘town hall’ meetings were interrupted by angry people. It was soon shown that the ‘Tea Party’ had developed a plan of action for many of them on how to disrupt meetings. Well now the tables have turned, to a degree. There don’t seem to be any action plans, just upset voters asking very tough questions of those who are most concerned about the economy. Young and old do not want Medicare turned over to private insurance companies. The voters want to know why rich individuals and big corporations got tax cuts. There is a lot of yelling, but sadly no answers.

>Toss a pillowcase in your luggage to use as a laundry bag while you're away and to keep clean clothes separate from the soiled ones on the way home.

SOMEWHAT USELESS INFORMATION…
>The Cadbury Creme Egg plant at Bournville UK can produce more than 1.5 million eggs per day. In the UK, over 200 million cream eggs are sold annually, three for every person in the UK.
>The original advertising for the treat featured the tagline "How do you eat yours?", based on the fact that there are so many different ways to enjoy the egg.
>In 2008, the new 'Here Today, Goo Tomorrow' campaign was launched, showcasing creme eggs on amusing missions to release their Goo.

UNUSUAL NEWS ITEM:
MEDINA, Ohio — The eggs may not be fresh, but they are drawing attention at an Ohio supermarket.
A female mallard duck is nesting atop bags of mulch just outside the main entrance of a Giant Eagle store in Medina in northeast Ohio. A small sign advises shoppers to beware of the bird and to grab their mulch from another pile.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports the duck is sitting on at least 10 eggs in a nest assembled on top of an 8-foot stack of bags. Store officials think she laid the eggs a couple of weeks ago.
A store spokeswoman told the newspaper two male mallards were seen in the parking lot earlier this spring.

A LITTLE LAUGH:
Jimmy: 'Hey, Mike! How's your new pet fish doing? You told me he was really something special.'
Mike: 'To tell the truth, I'm really disappointed in him. The guy who sold him to me said I could teach him to sing like a bird.'
Jimmy: 'What? Let me get this straight... You bought a fish because you thought you could teach him to sing like a bird?'
Mike: 'Well, yeah. After all, you know, he's a parrot fish.'
Jimmy: 'Now listen, Mike, while you might be able to teach a parrot to sing, you're never going to get anywhere with a parrot fish.'
Mike: 'That's what you think! It just so happens this fish CAN sing. The thing is, he's terribly off-key and it's driving me crazy. Do you know how hard it is to tuna fish?'
