Free Rambling Thoughts…
Camp Navajo has been around since WWII. It’s just a few miles from Flagstaff. Today it is a AZ Army Nat’l Guard facility. Old timers will remember it as Bellemont. Some idiot decided it was a good day to do something with an open flame. Everyone should have known it was a Red Flag Day. I guess this guy thought—“hmm a red flag warning for everyone but me.” So this afternoon some 150 hot shot-ers and fire crews had to go to Camp Navajo in hopes of containing a wildfire of about 200 acres. About 3:00 the smoke had gone all the way around the Peaks about 15 miles away and easily seen throughout Flagstaff. Fire fighting is dangerous work, wherever it is done. With high winds it is much more dangerous. So unfortunate that these dedicated fire fighters have to go to a fire that was started by a worker who didn’t pay attention to the red flag warning. We have another huge fire down south on the AZ/NM border near Alpine that grew overnight from about 3000 acres last night to 41,000 acres this morning with zero containment. That one is the fourth largest fire in the state’s history.
Cheryl and I had a good lunch at a favorite—La Fonda. She is busy working on a grant for a William’s Animal Shelter. She has several leads that may actually have some non-profits back east that will help out. That will be good for her and good for the homeless dogs in Williams. She is busy getting things ready for her trip with the older grandkids to go back to Michigan in July. She also got her new fence finished today. She got a chain link with posts in cement. Her previous one had wooden posts and over the last 20 years had basically rotted out. Her two dogs are really happy to be able to be back in yard without a leash. They have been inside or in the garage since the work started last week.
I’m wondering what the latest census will do to our congressional districts. One of the proposed plans will divide our fine city into two different congressional districts. Somehow this will give our liberal town more voice. I’m still trying to figure that out, but won’t get excited until I see the whole state plan. Whatever happens has to be better than what we have now. Our Senate President is facing a recall, and time will tell if all those signatures in Mesa will actually force a recall. He is so anti-immigrant that he makes our Governor look like a freakin’ liberal.

Yeah, It Really Happened…
HACKLEBURG, Ala. - An Alabama couple whose house was destroyed by a tornado said their 1982 wedding photo turned up at a home in Tennessee. Freida and Mike Evans of Hackleburg said the photo was among the items lost when a tornado leveled their home April 27 and it traveled about 120 miles before turning up in a Lincoln County, Tenn., family's yard, the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported Monday. The Tennessee family had the photo printed in the Daily Journal to find the owners. The Evans family said the picture appears to be completely undamaged. "When we go through trials, it makes us stronger," Freida Evans said. "I am survivor. I had depended on my faith and church family to get us through after the accident, and that's what we'll do now. We'll be able to build back."
Guffaw…or at least smile…
One morning the lion is feeling especially ferocious. He saunters over to a monkey swinging in a tree and roars, "Who's the king of this jungle?" The monkey scampers down from the tree, bows to the lion and stammered, "Wh..wh...why you are Mr. Lion."
A few minutes later, the lion comes across a warthog. He stops in front of the animal and asks, "Who's the baddest dude in this jungle?"
The warthog hid his face in the dirt and whispered, "You're the baddest, King Lion."
This continues all morning long with animal after animal bowing and scraping to the lion. Finally the lion comes across an 80-year-old bull elephant. He bellows at the elephant, "Who's the king of this jungle? Who owns this place?"
With that the elephant wrapped his trunk around the lion's belly. He raised the lion 12 feet in the air and slammed his head against the ground. After that he slammed the lion into a tree on the right and then into another tree on the left. Finally, the elephant swung his trunk and threw the lion 35 feet away where the lion landed in a thorn bush.
As the elephant lumbered down the trail the lion shook his paw and shouted, "Just because you don't know the answer, you don't have to get an attitude!"
