My Rambling Thoughts

My trip to Chicago was great. Flights both ways were simple, on time, friendly Southwest staff. Shuttle drivers both ways were on time, friendly, and picked me up at home and brought me back home. Very nice.

While in Chicago we stayed at my brother’s wife’s dad’s place. It is the home she grew up in. Had my own bedroom…the Elvis Room…with a great bed. It’s the Elvis room because his wife grew up near Graceland and was a big Elvis fan, so she has shelves and shelves of memorabilia. Even a life-sized cardboard cut-out picture of Elvis in his heyday. They had 30+ relatives for Christmas Eve dinner and package opening. My brother, his wife and I had our annual private package opening on Christmas morning…the way it is supposed to be…haha. Then it was off to her sister’s place for Christmas dinner and more packages and then games. It was great to see 92-year-old Grandma who is still living in her own house, and very active. This year was totally family-drama free…a first for my visits. Laura’s mom breeds Golden Retrievers and had 5 three-week-old puppies. Really cute. It is so fantastic to have such great in-laws.

About the weather in the suburbs of Chicago…We had about 2” of snow on Christmas Eve. Nice. The high that day was 3°. Christmas morning was -15° and warmed up to a blistering -1° in the afternoon. The sun was shining most of my visit, except when we had that one little snow storm. The sun did very little to warm up the temperatures. It was Chicago, so I expected cold.

Looking forward to a quiet New Year’s Eve back home. While the people in Chicago and elsewhere are freezing, we are setting records for high temps. Hard to believe it is late December and it’s 60° at 7000’. Kinda feel guilty as so many across the nation are so cold.

Disclaimer: All opinions are mine…feel free to agree or disagree.
All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
