My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Sunshine has returned and came with some wind gusts.

My phone went weird this morning. As I was starting my car, my phone, bluetooth connected to my vehicle and in my pocket somehow dialed my mother’s cousin in Montana. We had a great chat. She turns 95 on Saturday, so was glad I called. She is still driving and dancing once a week at the local senior center and plays golf with her son every other week. At the end of the call she said, ‘Thanks so much for calling’. That’s when I realized my phone had started the whole thing. Very enjoyable but still wondering why the phone did that.

Last night was not a good evening for the Broncos. I thought they had the game, then it went to OT and they lost. Maybe they will do better across the pond.

Iran is furnishing the Kamikaze drones used by Russia against Ukraine. That is not a good sign.

It has just come to light that the Secret Service paid exorbitant rates for rooms at various Trump properties while protecting the President and his family. While the going government rate was $206/night, some places were charging $1500 a night. I guess Eric was confused when he told reporters in an interview that the Trump Organization was charging the bare minimum for the Secret Service rooms. Surprise, surprise…in Gomer Pyle’s voice

Soon after I retired, the big news in our mountain town was the expected arrival of ‘In-‘n-Out’ Burgers. Now, over a decade later, the chain has signed a lease agreement for a now closed Pizza Hut on the west side of town. I will believe it when they open their doors.

Superstitions

Bananas on a Boat Are Unlucky

Among superstition among seafaring folks, bananas are taken very seriously. No one's quite sure how, exactly, the fear got started—theories include the notion that spiders and snakes would Trojan horse on board amid the bunches, or that the ethylene gas emitted by bananas as they ripen would spoil the other perishables on board—but some people still take it very seriously, going so far as to ban Banana Republic garb or Banana Boat sunscreen.
