Unclear on the Concept

-- Richard Turpin apparently just needed to borrow a truck, but he ended up with charges filed against him in Bratenhal, Ohio, on June 18. WJW-TV reported that a mail carrier parked his USPS van at the end of a driveway and walked up to the house to deliver the mail, giving Turpin a chance to jump in and take off. A witness saw the theft and called police, who caught up with Turpin a few miles away. When they asked him why he took the truck, he cryptically answered: "A U-Haul." The police officer responded, "I don't think that's a U-Haul" -- but surprise! Inside, they found a big-screen TV that hadn't been in the truck earlier, according to the mailman. And no mail was missing. The mail carrier admitted he'd left the keys in the ignition. [WJW, 6/21/2021]

My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

 

Heat wave continues…and the sky is filled with smoke from fires far away…leaving is with moderate air quality. As I complain, I also discovered that the past three nights have all broken temperature records…each night has brought the highest minimum temperature recorded. Flag is not enjoying cool summer nights.

Again I was up around 6a due to the heat. It turned out good, because I got to watch the Branson and crew flight to gain their astronaut wings. I learned a lot for a Sunday morning. It sure looked like a flawless flight. While I have wanted to travel in space since Alan Shepherd took his flight on live TV, I doubt it will be cheap enough for me to do it. Oh well.

I wanted the American troops out of Afghanistan since they arrived over 20 years ago. It sure looks like our troops teaching techniques didn’t work very well as the Taliban is taking over again. I am disappointed that the Biden administration did not make better plans for protecting those Afghans who helped us throughout the war. Many risked their lives to help us, and now we are incredibly slow in protecting them and their families. A sad commentary for all of America.
