Free Rambling Thoughts…
I got out and ran errands today. No rain…a little wind…lots of clouds. Errands were successful. Now I’m ready for the weekend. It looked like rain most of the afternoon, but none came at my house.

I got the mailed packet for my Grand Canyon trip. What a time we are going to have. So much is packed into the time. Of course the river level will play a role in some of the adventure, just like it did in Borneo. We will also be going during the monsoon season of AZ, so that will add to the adventure. The brochure is not real clear on what happens if there is a big thunderstorm while we are on the river or while we are camping. The Borneo staff did a great job of working around the rainforest deluges we experienced, so I’m sure the Grand Canyon staff will be equally prepared.

I was born after Israel was made. I was taught in school to understand how the Nazi’s treated the Jews and why they needed their own country. I had  just graduated from HS when Israel had its 1967 war, increasing its country’s size substantially. I volunteered with many very liberal Jews to make the world a better place while I was in college.  It wasn’t until I visited Africa that I found there was another side to the story I had never heard. When Obama suggested that the 1967 boundaries be used in the next never-ending peace talks, Netanyahu blasted out that that was unacceptable. They met today face to face and in the after meeting press conference, Obama said that we are friends with Israel and as friends, sometimes we have disagreements. I hope that there can be peace, but until the Palestinians have their own country, I don’t see it happening. So much of the anger in that part of the world has to do with creation of a country on soil that had been shared for centuries. Obama is certainly moving in the right direction, listening to everybody and working for cooperation. This is one of the first times in a long time that the US has publically not been 100% Israel.

Somewhat Useless Information…
++ Twinkies were invented in 1930, at the beginning of the Great Depression by James A. Dewar, a plant manager at Continental Baking Company (Hostess’ parent company).
++ The original Twinkies filling was a banana-flavored creme. However, during World War II, there was a shortage of bananas, so the filling was switched to vanilla.
++ There are 17 Hostess bakeries across the countries cranking out 500 million Twinkies every year. It takes 40,000 miles of plastic wrap a year to package them. At 150 Calorie a piece, all those Twinkies have the energy equivalent to nearly 51,500 barrels of crude oil.

Yeah, It Really Happened…
LOUISVILLE, Ky.  — A Louisville woman faces first-degree disorderly conduct and menacing charges after police said she took out a sword during an argument at a Pizza Hut.
According to an arrest report, Wynika Mason was causing trouble at the Pizza Hut on Seventh Street Road and police were called.
When police arrived, she began yelling at them, the report said.
Customers and employees were in the restaurant, and employees said they felt threatened by Mason’s behavior.
An employee told police Mason had a sword with her and began yelling and pulling it out of the scabbard, according to the police report. The report also stated Mason’s brother said he took the sword from her and put it in the car.
Officers were given consent to search the vehicle and found the sword on the driver’s seat.

Guffaw…or at least smile…
While I was dining out with my children, a friend of my neighbor, who recognized us, came over to our table, and we started talking.
He asked where my kids go to school. I told him we homeschooled them.
With a raised eyebrow, he asked if my husband is the sole breadwinner for our family.
I said, "No, I also work... but out of our home."
Then, noticing our two-month-old son, he mentioned that his daughter had just had a baby, and he wondered what hospital our son was born in.
"He was born at home," I answered.
The man looked at me and said, "You don't get out much, do you?"
