Thrust
It is what makes us go, through the
air anyway. Thrust is a force created by the acceleration of matter, like air.
This is an application of Newton's Second Law of Motion expressed as Force =
Mass x Acceleration. There are several ways to accomplish this, some better
than others, but the goal is to get us from one place to another as quickly and
efficiently as possible.
A "pound of thrust" is equal
to a force able to accelerate 1 pound of material 32 feet per second per second
(32 feet per second per second happens to be equivalent to the acceleration
provided by gravity). Therefore, if you have a jet engine capable of producing
1 pound of thrust, it could hold 1 pound of material suspended in the air if
the jet were pointed straight down.

My Rambling Thoughts
Windy night, had to close the bedroom
window about 2a. Much cooler and still windy today…guess fall is coming…just
not ready quite yet.
Good football in AZ. Yesterday the
Colorado Buffs beat rival Nebraska in a great game with OT on AZ TV. NAU lost
of UofA in Tucson…65-41 with UofA setting a high score stadium record. Then
this afternoon the Cards open their season. And they aren’t having a great day.
And they are playing the Lions…come on! Tomorrow the Broncos play rival Raiders
and it’s on AZ TV. Yeah!
I have always believed that the US
should talk (negotiate) with our enemies whenever possible. Talking can be much
better than killing. In war, both sides kill a lot. However; there is a time
and a place for those negotiations. I’m not upset that our president met with Kim
Jung Un. But the idea that he would invite the Taliban to our soil with no deal
in place is disgusting. The Taliban claims responsibility for 9/11. To make
matters even worse, he invited them to our shores near the anniversary of 9/11.
Very glad that he cancelled the poorly planned secret negotiations. I have to
wonder what the conservatives would have said if Obama had made the same
proposal. Oh, right, different time.
The new iPhone comes out soon. I’m
several generations behind… I have a 6. I have been thinking about getting the
10…now I’ll wait to the new one and see if it’s worth the upgrade.
The Navajo Nation Fair ends today. I
didn’t go, but friends posted lots of great pics. For many, it’s a big family
reunion and for almost everyone it is a parade, daily rodeos, crowds, fun, and
great food. Maybe next year!?!
