Random Tidbits
George Washington owned a profitable whiskey distillery.
Whiskey was one of Washington's most important business ventures at Mount Vernon. At peak production in 1799, the distillery used five stills and a boiler and produced eleven thousand gallons of whiskey.
James Madison held the first Inaugural Ball.
Although there was a ball in 1789 to honor the election of George Washington, the first official inaugural ball did not occur until 1809, when Madison took office. That evening his wife, Dolley, hosted a gala at Long's Hotel. The price of admissions was four dollars per ticket. Four hundred tickets were sold, and so began a Washington tradition.

My Rambling Thoughts
With my birthday coming up, this is the year MVD wants to know I can still see. The local office has moved from an area it has been in for 40+ years to a new office which is a renovated Multi-plex movie theater. At the old place, you entered, talked to a greeter, got a number and sat in chairs until your name was called. The last time I was there, years ago, it took about 45 minutes. At the new office, you enter and stand in a line to see the greeter. She took my picture and made sure I could see, then handed me a form and sent me to line #2. This lady checked my paperwork, took my passport, SS card, driver’s license and copied, printed, punched it all in to her computer, and took my credit card. Then she handed me back all my stuff, said I would have the new license in 7-10 days, and a paper copy that showed I had applied for a Travel ID/Driver’s license. The whole process took about 45 minutes, all standing. I was OK with all that, but felt sorry for people who have trouble standing that long.
The White Mountain Apache tribe has a nice casino just outside Pinetop, AZ on their rez. I’ve been there a couple of times with friends. Yesterday, in the early morning hours there was a confrontation in the parking lot. A White Mountain Tribal Police officer was shot and killed, and another officer killed the perp. This is a small tribe and losing one of its own is very difficult. Flags across AZ are flying at half-mast.
I get that rules change. Don’t usually like that, but it happens. Bloomberg has spent millions of his own money to run for President. Now the DNC has changed the rules and he will be on the debate stage in Vegas. Not that excited about buying his way in.

His car crashed, reportedly, but several eyewitness accounts said it looked like it was attacked by someone with a golf club. Ironically, his wife, Elin Nordegren, was reportedly informed about his infidelities shortly before the 'crash.'
