Steal someone’s thunder
In
the early 1700s, English dramatist John Dennis invented a device that imitated
the sound of thunder for a play he was working on. The play flopped. Soon
after, Dennis noted that another play in the same theater was using his
sound-effects device. He angrily exclaimed, “That is my thunder, by God; the
villains will play my thunder, but not my play.” The story got around London,
and the idiom was born.

A 99-year-old
California woman broke two Guinness World Records when she piloted a plane and
gave a flight lesson in the air. Robina Asti, 99, was named the world's oldest
flight instructor and active pilot after she gave her final flight lesson Sunday
at NextGen Flight Academy at Riverside Municipal Airport. "I love getting
people to experience what it's like to lift off this Earth," Asti told
local news. "It is so good." Asti said she wanted to show that senior
citizens are still capable of making valuable contributions. The flight
instructor took the world's oldest pilot record from an Iowa man who flew a
plane at the age of 98.

My Rambling Thoughts
Our group hasn’t had lunch together since March. I finally caught
up with Cheryl when she came into town. She was happy with the Hand Sanitizer
Pouch that our mutual friend, Faith, made. She hasn’t seen her son and his family
in CA since March, so is heading over Thursday for a long weekend visit.
The Bronco’s game was late…I’m glad we don’t have DST here in AZ.
Broncos couldn’t pull it off, but still a decent game.
Weather here is great. Warm, a slight breeze, sunny. Beautiful.
As a youngster, my parents didn’t want to force us into being Episcopal,
so for a few pre-teen years I went to church with some of the neighbor children…Baptist,
Lutheran, Methodist, and Southern Baptist. The Southern Baptist was the strangest
for sure. After attending about 5 Sunday services + Sunday school, the strangeness
happened. Every Sunday, the pastor would ask ‘Who believes Jesus Christ is your
savior. If you do, come to the altar’. That Sunday, I did. About an hour after
the service an entourage of 3 families showed up at the house. They were ready
to have me baptized into THEIR church. I had been baptized Episcopalian years
before, but to them, that didn’t count. My Mom and Dad talked to me, discovered
I have no desire to be baptized by them, and sent them politely packing. I quit
going to other churches after that. Well, the Southern Baptists are in the news…they
are going to advertise their name as Great Commission Baptists. They want to
lose their slavery roots. They won’t legally change their church name, as they
say it is too expensive. I’ve felt they were strange before, for me, now it is
confirmed.
Trump was in CA and AZ yesterday. The CA Governor was talking
about the hot weather, the fires, the lack of moisture, etc. to emphasize Climate
Change. Trump said not to worry, because it will be getting cooler very soon.
Then the Gov. admitted that CA could do more in the forests to prevent fires. Trump
agreed. Then the Governor reminded the President that 57% of CA forests are in Federal
hands, while only 3% is in California hands. Trump did not respond. So sad.
