My Free Rambling Thoughts   
It’s mid-November so not expecting great warm weather. The wind and the cold front made this quite a chilly day. There was rain overnight, but for the most part it was a blue sky with a few clouds.
 
Saw an interesting news story on FB today about Goodwill. It was a made by NBC. Seems that while Goodwill offers jobs to many disabled people, many are paid well below the minimum wage for their work…some as little as 22 cents and hour. On top of that many executives at Goodwill are paid half a million or more a year. Sure seems wrong on so many levels. Another story I saw this week was about the Salvation Army who spends hundreds of thousands each year to fight LBGT equality. The Army may be working hard to save souls and helping the needy…but dropping coins or bills in the red bucket does a whole lot more. People should know where their contributions are going in both cases.

TRUMPINGTON, England - A 75-year-old British woman was convicted of assault for emptying a bag of dog droppings on a cyclist she accused of riding too close to her. Prosecutors said Susan Currall, 75, of Trumpington, England, swung the bag of her dog's feces at cyclist Michael Ramage Sept. 12 because she was angry at how often cyclists passed too close to her while she was walking, Cambridge News reported Monday. Currall, who said she did not expect the bag to split and spill its contents onto Ramage, was ordered to pay Ramage $40 to cover his dry-cleaning costs as well as $160 to the court for costs. She was given a one-year conditional discharge.

  • Hedy Lamarr (9 November 1914 – 19 January 2000) was an Austrian actress in the ‘Golden Age’ and inventor, as well as a very beautiful woman. She was famous for her exotic dark beauty and was called as the ”most beautiful woman in Europe”. Moreover, she was mathematically talented as she invented an early technique for spread spectrum communications and frequency hopping, necessary for wireless communication from the pre-computer age to the present day!
  • ‘Valiola’ or ‘Smallpox’ , the infectious disease, which caused numerous deaths around the world, is believed to have emerged in human populations about 10,000 BC. Smallpox localized in small blood vessels of the skin, as well as in the mouth and throat. Regarding skin, it used to raise fluid-filled blisters.
  • The last occuring case of  variola was diagnosed in October 26, 1977.
  • The discovery of an unknown and strange object in the nearby galaxy m82 was presented at the National Astronomy Meeting in Glasgow. This new object, which doesn’t look like anything seen before and started sending out radio waves, was discovered by Radio astronomers at the University of Manchester.
  • Did you know that people of the Mongol empire did not use to wash their clothes or themselves? They believed that washing their clothes or themselves would cause pollution to the water and would make the dragons, who controlled the water cycle, angry.
  • Pitkern, usually described as the ‘Atlantic creole’, is mixture of English and Tahitian, based on a 18th century dialect. It was originally spoken in Pincairn Island and has many speakers in Norfolk Island. Although it is described as the Atlantic creole, it is spoken in the Pacific Ocean.

My Free Rambling Thoughts   
Windy, few clouds in the am but overcast by late afternoon, little rain, and a whole lot cooler. Not a great day to spend much time outside, so I did a bunch of laundry. We might even get some light snow tonight or tomorrow. I guess I’m ready.
 
Of course we want people to have a choice…just not Obamacare. No we don’t have another idea, but we don’t like this one. Give me a break. Lead or get out of the way.
 
Only in Flagstaff, a little mountain town. Police are looking for two people, one male and one female who have been passing counterfeit money around town. The criminals are hoping they would be caught because they are passing $20. The cops have videotape, so it’s just a matter of time, I’m sure.

LOGANVILLE, Ga. - Police in Georgia allege a woman caught having drunken sex with a man in a parked vehicle "attempted to put a cheeseburger on her foot as if it were a sandal." The Loganville Police Department said an officer allegedly spotted Rachel Gossett, 25, and Frank Lucas, 27, having sex in the front seat of a Dodge truck parked outside the Waffle House eatery in Loganville about 1 a.m. Sunday and interrupted the amorous couple, The Smoking Gun reported Monday. Gossett, who had been straddling Lucas without any pants on, "jumped into the passenger seat and just sat there" while Lucas pulled up his pants, the officer wrote in the arrest report. "I had to tell the female numerous times to get dressed before she finally did," officer Joshua Brickle said. "When the female finally got dressed she attempted to put a cheeseburger on her foot as if it were a sandal." Gossett and Lucas were both arrested on charges of loitering and public drunkenness.

My Free Rambling Thoughts   
Had a great lunch with Cheryl as Mary is off in Chicago visiting her daughter and grandkids. Things are all going well. She is planning her Thanksgiving visit to her son’s family in CA. She’s leaving early this year, on Monday before to spend more time there. Good for her. I’m set for another holiday dinner at Martha’s with several interesting people from around Flagstaff.
 
In the wake of the newest Secret Service scandal, Cheryl and I were remembering some of the scandals we had to deal in Tuba. Oddly we remembered quite a few and neither of us could remember the names of the two parties. We could usually remember one name but not the others involved, just the details that shook the school. Now the stories are just funny, but at the time, hardly. Nothing quite like dealing with an angry spouse who has caught her man ‘messing around with’ another employee. My favorite was a female teacher messing around with a male aide. Then the aide’s ‘wife’, they weren’t legally married but had 2 kids, got pregnant and the teacher took leave for every checkup to sit between the aide and the ‘wife’ in the waiting room. Several years later, when I retired, the threesome was still ‘together’.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The U.S. company behind a GPS "bullet" that can track the location of a crime suspect's car says it hopes to bring the technology to Britain. The bullet by StarChase in Virginia Beach, Va., is designed to make high-speed chases safer by allowing authorities to track suspects without risk to life. Fired from a police car, the bullet sticks to the suspect vehicle, broadcasting a signal that allows pursuing police to back off while pinpointing the vehicle's speed and location in near real time. StarChase says it wants to bring the system -- already in use in Iowa, Florida, Arizona and Colorado -- to Britain. The GPS tracking offers important tactical options for police, Trevor Fischbach, president of StarChase, said. "We've already made a difference, from rescuing little girls from human trafficking to stopping drivers under the influence," he said. Dave Allen of Britain's Leeds University has co-authored a report into the possible use of the technology by British police forces. "This sounds like interesting technology and there is a clear operational use for it," he told the BBC. "I think the costs will fall rapidly and we will see them being used routinely in the not so distant future." The StarChase system costs $5,000 to install in a police vehicle and each bullet costs $500.
Somewhat Useless Information   
  • Juicing allows you to eat all of your fruits and vegetables raw. Also, while cooking raw foods proteins become denatured, which renders them useless to the body.
  • Raw foodists argue that humans are the only mammals that continue to drink milk after being weaned because of the belief that milk is important for calcium. However, plants provide all the calcium the body needs without the health risks of milk. Some of the best sources of calcium are collard greens, kale, spinach, okra, broccoli, and almonds.
