AZ Politics

I survived another closed window day. Actually I just left about 11am and didn’t come home until 4pm, so I wouldn’t have to suffer. The workers are getting a lot done, and hopefully will be finished before Friday.

Politics in AZ is so strange. Our state legislature produced a budget that brought back much of the lost education funding. They did this in a matter of a couple of hours.
The local paper sure is bitter. A couple of weeks ago they wrote about our new mayor and her lack of accomplishments. Sunday they hit our congressional representative. We put up with carpet bagger Rick Renzi for several terms, yet little was ever published about him. It was good, according to the paper that Rick voted with Bush some 87% of the time. Ann is voting 80% of the time with her party and they think this is not enough. The Republicans set up our District to ensure a republican would be elected. It encompasses Flagstaff, known for its liberal democratic beliefs and then runs all around the state to include a lot of conservative Republican strongholds. So Ann was elected, partly by her platform, partly by the desire of so many for real change, partly to ensure that we wouldn’t get another carpet bagger, partly because the National Democratic Party pushed hard for election. I do wish that Ann was working a little harder for change. Maybe the Sun expose will be a wake-up call for her. I am anxiously awaiting her rebuttal to the Sun’s charges. It will say a lot about her.
I was not impressed by Mayor Sara's response to the suggestions that she was ineffective. A bulleted list of ‘accomplishments’ that included her membership in a number of Flagstaff organizations did not impress me. After doing a lot of volunteer work, I have learned that many resumes are peppered with being a member of an organization. It is many times the sign of a ‘joiner’ not a ‘do-er’.

While our congressional rep should respond; she should also do some behind the scenes work to get others to rally for her accomplishments. But this is AZ, so who knows what will happen.
