Sunday

I finally got around to doing some carpet shampooing today. I did the living room and hallway. I’ll keep going now that I have started. Amazing how much brighter the carpet is when it is clean…or maybe I just think so after seeing the dark water I dumped out from the shampooer. Whatever, I’m glad I got it done.

I didn’t make it to the Fair today, so maybe tomorrow. Our state rep was there today according to his facebook page. I didn’t see it until I was between moving furniture and shampooing so I decided not to stop my work to see him.

With this Labor Day weekend, many people are just remembering when they had jobs. Searching is not working. A sad state of affairs. At the same time the right wing crazies are telling kids not to hear Obama’s speech on studying hard and staying in school. What kind of nation will we have? The AZ School Board Association is encouraging students to listen, the AZ State School Superintendent says it is just ‘hero worship’ and admits he has no say in what individual schools do. The Flagstaff School District has not taken a stand. This is not a surprise. They announced Friday that some parents had concerns and others were more concerned. They said they were surprised. Since Monday is a holiday, I guess they will just wait and see. I wouldn’t be surprised if some schools had technical issues that prevent the speech from being seen or heard.

Our discussion group meets Tuesday evening. It should be a good time. I’ll be talking about Egypt and sharing some pictures, another lady will be doing the same on Syria, and a third person on Jordan. All three of us are left of middle in politics, and the super-right wing husband and wife won’t be attending. My reminder letter talked about how Egypt was a Muslim Nation and was our friend. So many right wingers don’t want to be reminded of this. I’m sure this is not the reason, as at least the husband likes a lively discussion.

Crazy Stuff in the News…

PALMER, Alaska – Officials with the Alaska State Fair said a giant green cabbage weighed at the event set a Guinness World Record at 125.9 pounds. Dean Phipps, marketing director for the fair, said Wasilla resident Steve Hubacek’s cabbage, which sports 5-foot leaves and measures about 21 inches across its head, beat the previous cabbage weight record of 124 pounds, set in Wales in 1989, the Anchorage Daily News reported. “I was there when they put it on” the scale, Phipps said. “When they put it on, everybody took a couple steps back and went like, ‘Oh, my gosh.’
They all had versions of that and then they started jumping up and down.” Fair officials said the record may last only until the next giant cabbage weigh-off, scheduled for Friday, as Hubacek claims to have a cabbage at home larger than his record-setter.
