Free Rambling Thoughts
An amazing rain this afternoon. Lots of lightning and thunder, then a nice steady rain. A friend was driving into town and saw lightning hit a tree and start it on fire. She called 911 and turned around went back to her cabin, in case of more fires. All was well, except for that one tree. Our Flag Scanner says the Fire Dept got there quickly. Then my phone sent out its alert tone to tell me that flash floods are expected. We really like the monsoons, but are not so happy about the lightning and the real heavy rains that just run off and don’t really soak in.

I finally finished my three videos and they are posted on You Tube. Check out the ‘Found on You Tube section for the link.  There are three videos of animal pictures…each about 6 minutes. I hope everyone enjoys them.  The trip was great, and making the videos was a lot of fun.

During all my computer work, I also watched some more great Olympic competition. Watching the swimming sure brings back memories of my youth and our local swimming pool. I saw every morning at 7a, went back at 1p and spent the afternoon. I wasn’t a fast swimmer but was on the team and was used during practice as an example of very good form. The pool was owned by a group of teachers for extra money during the summer. My brother and I sure have good memories of those days.

As noted in yesterday’s deaths, Vincent Van Gogh died over a century ago Sunday. 60 Minutes did a great story tonight, with lots of his pictures. Check it out on the internet machine if you missed it.

My Latest Adventure—

Folk Rock of the 1960’s
  • The Beatles,"Norwegian Wood." Undoubtedly the Beatles' greatest lyrical triumph during their folk-rock phase.
  • Judy Collins,"Both Sides Now." The most graceful mass folk-rock smash of the late 1960s, an example par excellence of an original early 1960s folkie growing into the folk-rock revolution with maturity, and the track that first enabled a Joni Mitchell song to reach most ears.
  • The Youngbloods,"Get Together." Many artists covered Dino Valenti's classic ode to love and brotherhood, including the We Five, the Jefferson Airplane, and (in live performance) Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell. The Youngbloods were not the first to do it, but they were the ones to have the biggest hit with the song, and deservedly so, as their slow arrangement and Jesse Colin Young's vocals brought out the most rousing, soulful qualities of the tune.
  • Country Joe & the Fish,"I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag." The funniest, and most vicious, anti-Vietnam War protest song. Not always thought of as a folk-rock song, but it should be noted that -- in addition to boasting a psychedelic jug band flavor -- it was first recorded as an acoustic jug band folk tune on a 1965 EP, prior to the release of the famous rock version two years later on the group's second album.

Joke-of-the-day
A man found a magic genie who would grant him one wish. The man said to the genie,” I wish that I had a non-stop bridge from here to Hawaii."
The genie said,” I’m sorry, but that's going to be very hard. Do you have another wish?"
The man answered, "Of course! I want the power to understand all women."
The genie thought for a minute. He replied, "How many platforms did you want on that bridge?"

CHICAGO - Cussing at work may feel good in the moment but could be a career-sinking habit over the long haul, a survey by a U.S. online employment search firm indicates.
CareerBuilder.com in Chicago said in a release Wednesday that 64 percent of employers said they'd think less of an employee who habitually swears, and 57 percent said they'd be less likely to promote someone who curses in the office.
How common is swearing in the office? The survey said 51 percent of workers report they've done it -- more likely in front of co-workers than the boss, however. Men (54 percent) are a bit more likely to cuss at work than women (47 percent), the survey found. Employers aren't immune to workplace swearing, with 25 percent admitting they've cussed out employees. Workplace swearing is most common in Washington (62 percent) and Denver (60 percent), followed by Chicago (58 percent), Los Angeles and Boston (56 percent), Atlanta (54 percent), Minneapolis (50 percent), Phoenix (47 percent) and Philadelphia (44 percent). The nationwide survey of more than 2,000 hiring managers and 3,800 workers was conducted May 4-June 4. The margin of error was plus or minus 1.5 to 2 percent.
Somewhat Useless Information
  • The 50 wealthiest members of Congress saw their collective fortunes increase by 85.1 million dollars to $1.4 billion in 2009.
  • In 2010, not only does the United States have a central bank, but it also runs our economy and issues all of our currency. The Federal Reserve has devalued the U.S. dollar by over 95 percent since 1913 and it has been used to create the biggest mountain of government debt in the history of the world.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
