Free Rambling Thoughts
A couple of the puzzles are disappearing after today, but new ones await. The 6 x 6 box has been using too many odd words for me.  I look forward to doing some new stuff for a little while.

Our retirement had our weekly lunch. Very good salad bar at Sizzler. Cheryl had just picked up new glasses and they are nice, as well as helping her see better. Mary had posted some great grandkid pics this morning and she told us of Kindergarten antics. Her grandson told the teacher he had a good time on the first day and hoped she would come back tomorrow to his school. Cheryl got her new big screen TV up and running and says she has really been enjoying the Olympics…on the big screen and in HD. I couldn’t agree more.

I got up this morning with no pain, so whatever was causing it has left the body, or is busy moving to another spot. Last night was a night of very strange dreams that woke me up at least four times. None of them made any sense when I awoke, and when I got up this morning I couldn’t remember any of them, just that I had awakened four times. Guess I should have written them down when I woke up in the middle of the night.

It was another HOT day here in Flag, but our afternoon rain cooled things off nicely. So glad I’m not in the Phoenix area with extreme heat warnings for everyone. My Olympic coverage was interrupted three times today with Emergency notifications of Heavy Thundershowers/ Flash Flooding in our county. None were near Flagstaff, and we just got our rather common afternoon shower. Since the storms were far off, my phone never gave me an alert. One of the storms was near Seligman one near Page and the other by the Grand Canyon. We live in a huge county and are not that populated, so TV always picks up stuff that doesn’t really hit Flagstaff. The smart phone notifications are much less widespread.

Joke-of-the-day
This guy needs a job and decides to apply at the zoo. As it happened, their star attraction, a gorilla, had passed away the night before and they had carefully preserved his hide. They tell this guy that they'll pay him well if he would dress up in the gorilla’s skin and pretend to be the gorilla so people will keep coming to the zoo. Well, the guy has his doubts, but Hey! He needs the money, so he puts on the skin and goes out into the cage.
The people all cheer to see him. He plays up to the audience and they just eat it up. This isn't so bad, he thinks, and he starts really putting on a show, jumping around, beating his chest and roaring, swinging around. During one acrobatic attempt, though, he loses his balance and crashes through some safety netting, landing square in the middle of the lion cage!
As he lies there stunned, the lion roars. He's terrified and starts screaming, "Help, Help, Help!"
The lion races over to him, places his paws on his chest and hisses, "Shut up or we'll BOTH lose our jobs!"

Yeah, It Really Happened
PORTLAND, Ore. - An Oregon woman who has been seen swimming in public pools while dressed as a mermaid said she is living out a childhood fantasy. Pauline Long, 56, said she wanted to be a mermaid as a child and she decided to spend this summer swimming in Portland pools while wearing her homemade fins, which were inspired by a woman she met a few years ago, KGW, Portland, reported Monday. Long, who said she is part of a 23-strong group known as The Northwest Mermaids, said she knows she isn't a real mermaid, but her 6-year-old self would be proud.
"I obviously know the difference but it's just fun. It's freedom," she said. "If you don't do it as a child, why not do it as an adult? Who says that you can't?"
Somewhat Useless Information
  • Even those who were reading e-books before on different platforms are jumping on the Kindle/Nook bandwagon. Yes, more e-book readers are now opting to use dedicated e-readers to read their e-books. Fewer people are reading e-books on a computer.
  • According to e-book readers, having access to free chapters or samples had the biggest impact on getting them to buy an e-book. In fact, this seems to be more of a decision-maker than online reviews.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
