My Free Rambling Thoughts
Another wet day here in Flagstaff. Not knowing any better, this summer has me thinking we are living in a much more tropical area. Behind my deck little mushrooms are beginning to appear. Hardly the stuff we are used to seeing in a high desert. Also the infamous rocks in our front area are getting little green weeds growing around them. I’m sure mold is going to be our next summer outdoor surprise. Today I had 3 separate 20 minute fairly heavy showers about an hour apart.

While the embassy/consulate closings around the world were a surprise, some must have left Americans traveling in those countries a little more than ‘on edge’. One of the closings was in Dubai. Dubai is a tourist haven for the very rich throughout that part of the world as well as Americans and Europeans. I can’t believe the terrorists would want to upset any of the Emirates by bringing fear to the many money spending tourists. We closed all the UAE embassies so something must be up.

My Native neighbors, with whom I share a sidewalk, have had a very busy summer. I don’t mind, except in the evening, when I have my window open in the living room while I watch TV. There is an almost constant stream of young families coming and going...not a problem…unless the toddlers are crying or yelling or the parents are continuing their loud conversations all the way to the parking lot. It is almost never in anger, but lots of loud laughing, joking, and making plans. When I close the window, everything is fine, so I’m not going to complain.

Brain Teasers
According to U.S. law, there are officially designated days that all U.S. flags are to be flown at half-mast (for example: Memorial Day). The President and state governors also have the right to declare certain days that flags are to be flown at half-mast.
There is a particular group of U.S. flags that are never lowered to half-mast and appear to "violate" this U.S. Law. These flags were erected by U.S. Military personnel, but those troops will never be accused of doing anything wrong for those violations.
These flags are currently displayed today, and they have been for numerous years. Where is this particular group of flags displayed?

Songs with Double Meanings:
Back Door Man - The Doors - Key Triple Lyric of song:"I'm your backdoor man, the men don't know, but the little girls understand" (1) Having an affair with a married woman. In this case the "back door man" is meant as a person who is sneaking around and "using the back door" when visiting the lady in question so nobody knows of his visits (or, his exiting the home fast by the back door, while her husband came home unexpectedly - through the front door); (2) Having anal sex; (3) Having sex with underage girls. In this case, the lyric:"I eat more chicken than any man ever seen" seems to cover this, as "chicken" is sex slang referring to children under the legal age of sexual consent.
Behind Blue Eyes - The WhoKey Double Lyric of song: "No one knows what it's like to be the bad man, to be the sad man behind blue eyes" (1) The song is about a lonely man and his sad life (2) The song was written by Pete Townshend, who has blue eyes, and is about how he is seeing things in life through (or behind) his own two eyes.
Unusual Fact of the Day

Joke-of-the-day
One friend to another, “My new horse is very well-mannered.”
“That’s nice.”
“Yes, isn’t it? Every time we come to a jump he stops and lets me go first!”

 STORING HEAT IN A GREENHOUSE
Containers of water are excellent for storing heat in a solar greenhouse. Start with 1 cubic foot of water for each square foot of greenhouse glass.
Yeah, It Really Happened
NANTUCKET, Mass. - Officials on Massachusetts' Nantucket Island said they do not know the identity or motive of a "prankster" who left a shark carcass on a pub's doorstep. John Smith, Nantucket's public works operations manager, said his office got a call at 7 a.m. Thursday to remove a dead shark from in front of the Sea Dog Brew Pub and he had to call in a front-end loader to cart away the 6-foot-long, 100-pound shark, the Boston Herald reported Friday. "In the summertime, there's always somebody who's a prankster," Smith said. He said a prankster filled a street with small "black back" tuna a few summers ago. "Fortunately this doesn't happen that often," he said. Sea Dog Brew Pub manager Jimmy Agnew said he was also perplexed by the shark. "It just made for an interesting day," he said. Agnew said a couple of people had to be removed from the bar before it closed at 3 a.m., but he didn't think any of the incidents were severe enough to result in a dead shark delivery. Smith said the carcass is being sent to be processed at a landfill and will eventually become topsoil.

Brain Teasers
These flags are on the moon.
The first of these U.S. flags were deployed to the moon on July 20, 1969 by NASA astronauts. There are a total of 6 US flags deployed to the moon surface, one for each visit to the moon (Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 & 17). We can only assume they are still standing and were not knocked down when the lunar modules' engines fired.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
