My Rambling Thoughts
Mid week, hump day, whatever, not a great day. My foot is still really sore, really sore. I got some pain meds yesterday and they are helping, but I still am really slow. I took one pill yesterday afternoon and then woke up about 4a with pain. Won’t do that again. One pill before bedtime until this goes away. One during the day so I can walk. This getting old-er thing is getting boring.
I have to laugh, or chuckle over the hypocrisy of some in this country. Yesterday Hobby Lobby was touting how they don’t have to provide their female employees with birth control under their insurance policy because it is against their religion. Then today it comes out that the 401K’s HL offer their employees have funds in the largest drug companies that produce the birth control pills that they object to. Guess the saying…’it’s about the money’…is really true. They don’t want to spend the money to provide their employees with birth control access, but the companies that make the pills are good money makers so it is OK to have them in the portfolio. And yes, there are 401K’s nicknamed ‘Catholic 401K’s’ that guarantee that funds will not be put into companies that do not meet religious standards.  Too bad the Supreme Court majority can’t see beyond the money either.
The monsoon has arrived. Cloudy all day, lots of wind this morning. About a half inch of rain on the mountain. Just a little here at my place, but it’s the forest that needs it, and now they are getting it.
Our little mountain town is having a political battle with the ‘big boys’. The big boys want to build off-campus housing for 650 students. They would close a very old trailer park where most of the trailers can’t be moved. The area is in the heart of ‘old Flagstaff’ where the town first began. Lots of opposition—traffic, historical problems of large off-campus housing with police calls for alcohol and noise, and not fitting into the neighborhood. There have been meetings since Feb and most are against it. The Zoning Commission said NO. Then just as the city council was set to meet two things happened. First, one of the developers filed a law suit against our Vice Mayor for defamation claiming she re-distributed a false memo, hoping she would recuse herself. The City Attorney told her she did not have to recuse. Then two groups of ‘unknowns’ did pre-recorded robocalls to some 14,000 residents saying to come to the meeting to support the project. I got one of the calls from ‘Concerned parents of NAU students’. After the first call I got 7 more calls from the same number that were just clicks and hang ups. My call’s number was from Tees Nos Pos, on the Rez. I called it back after the third call and the phone just said, ‘we do not accept calls at this number’. Ahh, small town politics.

Rules of Thumb:
MAKING ELECTRICITY FROM COAL
It takes about a pound of coal to produce a kilowatt hour of electricity. Your electric bill will list the number of kilowatt hours you use every month. You can use this figure to find how much coal was burned to meet your demand for electricity.
Yeah, It Really Happened
PROVO, Utah, July 2 (UPI) --Next time it might be wise to go with a gift certificate or a nice card.
A Utah woman was arrested by Provo police after she allegedly attempted to purchase methamphetamine from an off-duty police officer.
During the attempt, Heather Rodriguez allegedly pulled a glass pipe that was coated with meth residue from her brassiere.
When officers who were on the clock arrived, the 46-year-old allegedly told police that she was trying to buy meth for her sister for her birthday because she requested the illegal substance as a gift.
The suspect also said that she was holding the meth pipe for a friend and it didn't belong to her, the Daily Herald reported.
Rodriguez was booked on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia in a drug-free zone and attempted possession of meth for distribution.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
