  Birthdays Today:
How many can you identify? Answers below in Birthday’s Today

My Rambling Thoughts
A much warmer, for winter, day here in our little mountain community. Went to my annual prostate dr. to find that everything is doing fine. I’ve had the same low PSA reading for 5 years.  Can’t be too careful.
Cleaned up around the house a little today. Got a couple of cabinets organized. That’s good too. Found stuff I forgot I had. A much appreciated quiet day.
Texted Mary and she is on the mend from her severe cold. She said she slept well last night, thanks to the cough syrup the clinic prescribed…I’m sure it simply knocked her out.

Flagstaff, AZ History…
--W.J. Stevenson has just completed a barn that cost only $150 and holds 130 tons of hay for Frank Spear.
--Dr. Portz wishes to inform his patients and the general public that after Dec. 14 his office will be at 15 Aspen in a part of the old Confection Den.

Flagstaff’s Iconic 50…
Downtown Train Station
The depot at Flagstaff has been an integral part of the city since 1926, the year it was built by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company. This Tudor Revival brick building with its cross-gabled roof was designed by one of the railroad’s engineering staff. It stands at what has historically been one of the busiest railroad corridors for both freight and passenger rail in the United States. The station also serves as the city’s Visitors Center.
The station has undergone minor cosmetic repairs over the years and recent work has included restroom partition maintenance, repairs to wrought iron fencing and gates and improved doors.
Flagstaff’s history is intertwined with railroad development in the western United States. Settled in 1876, the town grew rapidly from its inception due to the east-west expansion of the railroad, which made Flagstaff a desired transit and transport location. The town continued to grow alongside the bustling railroads that ran through its territory and was incorporated as a city in 1928. Today, Flagstaff sits as the county seat for Arizona’s Coconino County.

Joke-of-the-day
Carlos told his wife he wanted a guitar to play while sitting in the Jacuzzi. “The next day she bought him an electric guitar.”

Yep, It Really Happened
A human cannonball made a lethal impact during a stunt show at Kent County Showground in Great Britain.
Video footage of the event showed Matthew Cranch, 24, moments before the stunt. After climbing into the giant cannon spectators shouted "Three, two, one, fire!" before Cranch was propelled 40 feet into the air with an explosion and a puff of smoke.
Tragically, the human 'cannonball' earned his name the hard way when the safety net he was supposed to land in collapsed, causing Cranch to land on the ground.
This particular stunt show has been touring the UK since 1991 and features motorbike and monster truck stunts as well as the human cannonball and have never had an equipment failure like this before.
Police announced after an extensive investigation that no criminal prosecution would be brought over the incident.
Cranch had only been with the daredevil stunt show for two weeks at the time of the incident and was taking part in his 12th event. It is unknown if the stunt company will be able to find another performer of his caliber.

Somewhat Useless Information
--Popcorn is a type of maize (or corn), a member of the grass family, and is scientifically known as Zea mays everta.
--Popcorn is a whole grain. It is made up of three components: the germ, endosperm, and pericarp (also know as the hull).
--Most popcorn comes in two basic shapes when it's popped: snowflake and mushroom. Snowflake is used in movie theaters and ballparks because it looks and pops bigger. Mushroom is used for candy confections because it doesn't crumble.
--Americans consume some 16 billion quarts of this whole grain, good-for-you treat. That's 51 quarts per man, woman, and child.
--Most U.S. popcorn is grown in the Midwest, primarily in Indiana, Nebraska, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky and Missouri.
--The peak period for popcorn sales for home consumption is in the fall.

Disclaimer: All opinions are mine…feel free to agree or disagree.
All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
