Random Tidbits

Cosmos is a symbol of joy in life and love and of peace. The calendula (aka garden, English, or pot marigold) represents winning grace, grief, or chagrin in the language of flowers. Birth order can influence whether a marriage succeeds or fails. The most successful marriages are those where the oldest sister of brothers marries the youngest brother of sisters. Two firstborns, however, tend to be more aggressive and can create higher levels of tension. The highest divorce rates are when an only child marries another only child.

Compared to singles, married people accumulate about four times more savings and assets. Those who divorced had assets 77 percent lower than singles.

The cost of an average wedding is about $20,000. The cost of an average divorce is about $20,000.

A little humor

Dentist: Could you help me? Could you give out a few of your loudest, most painful screams?

Patient: Why? Doc, it isn’t all that bad this time.

Dentist: There are so many people in the waiting room right now, and I don’t want to miss the 4 o’clock game.

True Things

In the 18th century, pigeon poop was used to make gunpowder, so King George I confirmed the droppings to be property of the crown.

You know that the 16th president of the United States fought for the freedom of slaves and the Union, but what you didn’t know is that he was a licensed bartender. Lincoln’s liquor license was discovered in 1930 and displayed in a Springfield liquor store. Wayne C. Temple, a Lincoln expert, told the Southeast Missourian newspaper that in 1863 Congress wanted to fire Ulysses S. Grant because he drank a lot and Lincoln’s response was to send Grant a supply of whiskey.

My Rambling Thoughts

High pressure remains. Great day for a walk.

Last night I got a call from Frank, Laura’s dad. He was letting me know that he just talked to Richard and Laura and the Cat 4 hurricane Delta is only going to bring them lots of rain. We had a good conversation…Austin and his wife are expecting a baby in January. Chicago family is doing well. Elise is teaching remotely. The kids are doing remote too. I got a text from Richard this morning that they got about 2.5” of rain, no damage, still raining. Guess that is all good.

Awaiting the debate between Pence and Harris. Hoping for a better outcome than the first Presidential debate.

A recent study showed that there is about 15-1/2 tons of microplastic on the seabed around the world. In 20 years, it is predicted that microplastic in the ocean will weigh more than all the living beings in the ocean. Scary!

As the west coast fires continue to burn they have now consumed 4million acres of forest, homes, and businesses.

I picked up my CPAP stuff this morning. They are the most incompetent business around. I ordered the supplies last week and they were going to call. I called Monday at 9am and they had no order in process and said to call back on Wednesday. I asked when the supplies arrived…get this…Monday at 10:30a.
