My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

A nice fall day…every night is a bit cooler.

Yesterday started like a typical Friday. I did some shopping and drove home, put the stuff away. When I went out to lock my vehicle, I saw that the tire was low. I drove to Discount Tire about 4 miles away. The guy checked me in and said they could get to it at 2:15p…It was 11:30. He also said the tires were 12 years old and needed to be replaced…even though the tread was still good. They only had 2 tires in my size. I got two and ordered 2 more. I reached in my pocket to call a friend and realized I had not brought my cell phone. He called a taxi company and they were booked up until 4pm. So, I sat there, took a quick walk to Safeway next door, and sat and waited. I got out at 2:45pm with a much bigger credit card bill. I’ve been driving since I was 16 and never knew tires could ‘get old.’  I’ve never kept a vehicle this long either. For the past year I have had a ‘low tire’ light on. I checked the tires, and no tire was low. The guy who brought my car out saw it, said he’d check it. He took a device and touched all 4 tires, the plugged the device in under the dash. No more light. Amazing. Not the way I had planned to spend Friday, but it all worked out well. And there was a screw in the low tire.

The UK is having a very real fuel crisis. The truckers who hauled petrol to the gas stations were mostly from the EU on Visas. With Brexit, those Visas ended so the drivers returned to the EU. Now there are not enough drivers to deliver fuel for vehicles.

Recycling is complicated and confusing. Maine has come up with a new law. Now producers must pay into a fund that helps municipalities pay for recycling costs. The cost is based on how their material is recycled. It will take about a year to get the regulations worked out. Sounds good to me. It became a really big deal when China stopped accepting recycling stuff a few years ago…leaving municipalities to pay the higher costs.
