My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Windy, hot, and a forest fire about 5 miles from my place. Lots of smoke coming over the mountain. Very depressing to see our forest on fire. Lots of help on the way. Right now, at noon, there is on air tanker, 1 dozer, a hot shot crew, and local fire department. On the way are 4 more air tankers, a helicopter, and more fire crews. The fire is on Shultz Pass Road, the road to Snowbowl Ski area. Residents in the area were put on GO status about 15 minutes after the fire started. A Louisiana tourist has been detained. I’m not in danger.

As part of the Yellowstone Park’s 150th anniversary, officials announced the 10,551 high peak formerly called Mount Doane is now First People’s Mountain. It was previously named for an army officer who attacked many local Indians and slaughtered women and children. That’s good news.

Everyday Phrases with a Dark Meaning

Taken aback

This expression is often used when one is caught off guard, not expecting something. It's origins are also quite dark.

It comes from the idea of attacking someone from behind. The element of surprise usually makes it an effective way to conduct an attack.

Riddle of the Day

I can break, I can be clogged, I can be attacked, I can be given, I can be kept, I can be crushed, yet I can be whole at the same time.

What am I?

                                                                                                       Answer: A heart.
