My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

The weather started out very nice, but by noon there were flash flood warnings, thunder and lightning. Rain expected soon.

While I am driving around town in my new Silver Nissan, I notice there are a whole lot of silver vehicles I had never noticed before. 😊

I have been using a Sonic Care toothbrush for decades, ever since they came out. Suddenly the other day, it wouldn’t charge. I couldn’t believe that a toothbrush that is used twice a day for the past 10 years + would stop charging. I picked up a new one this morning…before the clouds came in.

When most people think of AZ, one of their first thoughts is the beautiful Saguaro cactus in Southern AZ. Now those cacti are in peril. The AZ Botanical Gardens has started a new program to find out what is causing their premature deaths. They set up a website that allows regular people to upload pics of the cacti. The photos must have geo-location to be downloaded. The Garden's research department believes that by collecting photos of unhealthy cacti, it will help them figure out what is causing the issues. With geo-location the researchers can head to that area for a better look. I sure hope this helps.

While I was working on the Rez, we were in need Native teachers. Many of those hired had PELL grants during their college years. When they worked on the Rez, a low-income area, they could have some of their debt dismissed while working. Every year we had to fill out forms to say they were working. The same was true for many in the medical profession…by working in low-income communities throughout the US.

I’m still not sure how I feel about students having their loans forgiven or diminished without having to do some kind of ‘repayment’. College costs are outrageous now. Students certainly need assistance in paying for their education.  Too many times, something given you for free is not appreciated as much if you earn it. I hope Biden’s plan works for America. My one caveat is that those who owe money to shady institutions that claimed more than could ever deliver should have their entire debt erased.

One Hit Wonders

"Ride Captain Ride," Blues Image (1970)

Blues Image made three albums over two years, and it enjoyed its only real success with this single off its second record Open. "Ride Captain Ride" made it as high as No. 4 on the Billboard chart. While the tune is catchy enough, it's actually somewhat of a sad tale considering the captain and his ship sail off and disappear. Either way, it was good enough to earn the group a top-five hit.
