My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

A nice warm summer day.

As my grandpa used to say: “I ‘et something that didn’t agree with me”. I’ve had a stomachache since last night. I stopped and got some Alka-Seltzer this morning. Feeling better.

One of the perks of my new ride is free car washes at the dealership. Since moisture is out of the picture this week, I stopped by and got a free car wash. The machine did a good job. All I had to do was wipe down the side mirrors.

Our elected people must do something about gun violence in every state in the union. Over the last weekend there were 180 Americans killed and 57 injured in numerous gun-violence incidents around our country. Freedom is not the freedom to kill or injure people. Mental health must be addressed when purchasing a gun, families and educational institutions must show that gun violence is not the answer to any situation. Our citizens should not have to be concerned about being shot while shopping at a grocery store or attending a concert, or sitting in a school or church.

One Hit Wonders

"Afternoon Delight," Starland Vocal Band (1976)

No, this song has nothing to do with actual fireworks. In fact, the only thing memorable about this popular track other than its perfect harmonization is the suggestive sexual lyrics about looking forward to an afternoon romp. Thanks to this No. 1 hit, the band won Grammy Awards for Best Arrangement for Voices and Best New Artist. Most recently, the song's popularity was revived for its inclusion in popular films like Good Will Hunting and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, just to name a few.
