My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

A decent fall day. A couple time this morning, clouds dropped just enough raindrops to dirty the windshield. In the high desert…moisture is always appreciated.

Lizzo is a black rapper and trained flutist. Last week, during a concert she played a crystal flute once owned by Founding Father James Madison. Nice music. Now some conservative pundits are decrying the desecration of the instrument once owned by a founding father. These crazies are neglecting to remember that Madison owned slaves.

Sad to read that Havana lost ALL power during Hurricane Ian. Now there are protests in the streets of Havana as only 2% of the place has power. When I visited it was a vibrant city.

Arizona is now allowing the state to help with tuition costs of parents who place their children in private and religious schools as well as some costs of home schooling. Currently the parents can get about $7,000 per student. Whatever happened to separation of church and state?

Superstitions

Knocking on Wood

Ancient pagans used to believe that their spirits living the trees and knocking on the trunks would summon them for protection. The gesture was also used to thank them when something good happened. The tradition later took shape in other cultures. Some Christians associated the tradition with the cross and Jews associated it with knocking on the wooden doors of synagogues while seeking shelter during the Spanish Inquisition.
